My current schedule is full of Awana events, so my crafting time and brainpower are limited. When life gets busy, I reach for scrapbook sketches and limit my supplies to a single kit like the SCT Sampler. Today, I am sharing a few tips for creating a quick layout and how to use your Cricut to cut the partial circles needed for this page.
This sketch is from the 30 Days of Sketches with Christy’s Beautiful Life, which is a group full of inspiration that I am a part of. I chose this sketch with circles because I liked how it was laid out as a background and thought it would give me a chance to try a little mixed media on my page.
I started in Cricut Design Space and used the slice tool to create three partial circles. You might be wondering why I bothered to slice these images from a square shape; I could have just cut out some circles.
My SCT Kit contains six-inch paper samples, and I wanted to conserve the paper for other projects. By cutting just the shapes I needed, I saved paper and didn’t have extra circle pieces I couldn’t use.
Sketches save me time, but I often need to alter them. This sketch shows the photo in the top circle, but I chose to add a 4×6 photo in-between the circles instead.
I cut the circles from pattern papers in the kit and placed them onto the page, as shown on the sketch, then I placed patterns behind my photo using similar patterns and colors to create a cohesive look
. Adding stamped floral images helped to pull the design together. I stamped the Poppy images onto watercolor cardstock and shaded them with watercolor paints.
The peach brings the color from the right circle to the rest of the layout, and it gives a nice contrast to the blue patterns on the page.
It also saves me time if I stick to a single kit. When the supplies are ready to go on my desk, it prevents me from rummaging around my craft space to find matching items.
My February SCT Kit just arrived, and this layout gave me the perfect excuse to use it. All of the patterns and ephemera played so well together on this page and I love how it all came together.

In the video, you heard that I did struggle some on this layout. Mixed media has always been something I dabbled in, but the unpredictability of it has been my greatest fear.
I decided to start small and take all the lessons I have learned in the past two years and put them to use. It was a little scary at first, but it was worth it in the end. I love how this page turned out.
