This week, I have joined the Mix It Up Monday hop with a sweet winter page full of dimension, and I plan to share a few ways that you can use thread to add texture to your designs. This photo is one of my favorites and the elements I chose to fit it perfectly.

Mix It Up Monday is a social media hop where the participants share projects using a sketch and mix it up with texture paste, foil, paint, ink, spray, gesso, thread, stitching, or whatever they choose.
Vellum and stitching are two of my favorite ways to add texture to a design, so I decided to “mix up” the sketch by adding those two elements.

I kept to most of the sketch design, but instead of adding the title and white space to the right of the photos, I added layered vellum snowflakes with rows of stitching. I love the way this looks like falling snow and icicles.
After adding the snowflakes, I moved the title to the top of the page. The sketch shows four photos, but I chose to add a vertical 4×6 photo instead.

To imitate the top photo in the sketch, and mix it up a little, I used a journal card to which I layered chipboard elements and a title. I chose a mix of fonts, chipboard, word strips, and stickers in the embellishment cluster to match the theme.
I mirrored the placement of the journaling cards in the sketch then added a banner at the base of the photo to balance out the weight at the top of the page.

Not only did I use thread on the page to add texture, I also used it to create some adorable pink tassels. These match the hat in the photo and give a fun playful feel to the page.
In my process video, I share more elements that I added and why I chose them to for layout.
I hope you were inspired by this Mix It Up Monday hop and all the projects shared. This hop was a collaboration between Anna from Piece Craft Love and Kimberly from I’d Rather Be Scrapbooking but anyone is welcome to play along.
There are so many great ideas showing how to mix up this sketch and I can’t wait to try a few of the techniques. If you have any questions about the project or the supplies I used, feel free to leave me a comment.
