How to Choose a Color Palette for Scrapbooking

Do you ever get stuck trying to decide which colors to use on your scrapbook pages? I totally get it! Choosing the right color palette can feel overwhelming, and I’m here to simplify the process. Today, Iโ€™m sharing a few of my favorite color selection tips to help you create a cohesive, eye-catching layout that tells your story beautifully.

This layout was created using the beautiful March 2025 Hip Kits. The layout combines textured lace-edge stitching borders, pastel florals, and a layered photo strip to highlight a series of happy memories. These color choices were based on hues that would highlight the photos, which is one of the techniques explained in the video below.

For this page, I chose soft greens, buttery yellows, and soothing shades of blue. These colors work harmoniously to reflect a calming springtime mood. It was perfect for this memory of our daughter’s bridal shower.

One of the most eye-catching elements on this page is the set of layered, lace-trimmed borders. Each strip was die cut from cardstock using the new Stitchable Eyelet Die. To add even more texture, I stitched across a few layers with embroidery floss. This added both texture and tone-on-tone detail, giving the illusion of delicate fabric while reinforcing the color story.

You can replicate this using border dies and your sewing machine or hand stitching tools. Itโ€™s a simple way to give your layout a handmade feel. This step takes a little time, but the result is totally worth it!

To create the lush, layered floral clusters, I used the Stitchable Spring Blooms to cut layers of cardstock and vellum. I shaped the petals using a bone folder and added more texture with soft buttercream stitches. Leafy layers were tucked behind each bloom to create depth and movement. Adding florals in your chosen color palette is a great way to balance your layout and draw the eye toward your your photos!
