Start with a Sketch: Floral Easter Layout

One of the things I missed the most this year was crafting with friends. To bring back that joy, I decided to resume weekly livestreaming in my Facebook group. Recently, during my Crafty Coffee Hour, I shared floral crafting tips while creating this adorable Easter scrapbook page.

During Craft Coffee Hour, my goal is to demonstrate how you can use the items already in your craft collection. It’s truly amazing what hidden treasures lie within our stash of supplies. For this Easter scrapbook page, I dug out one of my favorite collections from Paige Evans, some sweet floral dies, and a few inks.

To simplify the project, I started with a sketch from Creative Scrapbooking Magazine. Sketches are a wonderful starting point when you need inspiration. My brain has been overwhelmed lately, so having a place to start is always helpful.

I enjoy putting my own spin on sketch designs. Instead of the shorter flags, opted for large pattern angle cuts. I also added florals, some tabs, stickers, and a simple title.

The Sunny Lane floral dies are among my top picks and complement the Blooming Wild collection from Paige Taylor Evans perfectly. Rather than cutting the florals from colored cardstock, I opted to cut them from white and then added shading to each one using ink. This technique enabled me to achieve diverse color variations in my floral designs.

I truly enjoyed sharing my tips for creating three dimensional flowers during the Crafty Coffee Hour. Not only did I share my ink coloring tips, I also showed my viewers how to shape flowers and create layers for scrapbook pages.

One of the highlights of live scrapbooking is the opportunity to seek design suggestions, similar to being at an in-person crop or retreat. Whenever I faced a creative block, all I needed to do was ask for help.

Making changes to the sketch required me to bring balance to my page with additional patterns, shapes, and colors. My viewers helped me choose a few patterns for my page which I paired with florals.

The last step was adding the title. Regrettably, I mistakenly grabbed the wrong set of letters for my livestream. As soon as I started inking the letters, I realized my error. Later on, I found the right stickers, inked them, and positioned them at the bottom of my page.

I want to thank those of you who were able to join me for my Crafty Coffee House last week. If you missed it, the replay is available in my Create with Miss. Carrie facebook group.
