Sketch Inspired Summer Layout Livestream

Have you tuned in to my weekly livestreams? Each week, I look forward to connecting with fellow crafters like you and sharing my passion for paper crafting. It’s a joy to reveal my top tips and tricks and simple paper crafting techniques.

Recently, I shared simple techniques to enhance a scrapbook sketch, like the one I used to create this vibrant summer layout. We discussed how to select the perfect patterns and prints, incorporate summery elements, and how color plays a crucial role.

During our livestreams, I love diving into the nitty-gritty details that can truly elevate a project. One of the highlights was demonstrating how a seemingly small addition, like a border created with metal dies, can transform the entire look.

I shared my tips on how to extend borders using a clever cutting technique. I illustrated how to lengthen shorter borders through partial cutting, adjusting the die position, and cutting once more to form a seamless border.

And let’s not forget about the magic of the die cutting mat! This essential tool can work wonders, replacing the base plate on a die-cutting machine to streamline your crafting process. It’s these little tips and tricks that make a big difference in the overall crafting experience.

Throughout our session, I emphasized the power of patterned paper in highlighting the focal point of your project. By playing with pattern direction, color schemes, and design elements, you can create a visual masterpiece that beautifully complements your photos and memories.

I also provided advice on achieving balance in your layout. To balance the multiple vertical elements on the page, I introduced a horizontal grounding line with a title placed on the right and a cluster of journal cards on the left.

This horizontal grounding line not only adds stability to the design but also creates a visual connection between the different elements on the page. By placing the title on the right, it serves as a focal point that anchors the reader’s attention.

I placed a chipboard banner beneath the title. While live streaming, I demonstrated the process of preparing chipboard elements with paint or gesso. The colors on the banner were strategically chosen to establish a visual triangle with the other elements on the page.

So, if you haven’t already joined me for Crafty Coffee Hour, I invite you to grab your favorite crafting supplies, pour yourself a cup of coffee, and immerse yourself in a world of creativity and inspiration.
