Before you check out the video, let me share some tips to help you scrapbook those damaged photos. Let’s start with the significance of color selection. One of the common issues with older pictures is color distortion. For instance, the photo of the two sisters had a significant amount of red, and although I was able to correct some of it, I couldn’t remove it entirely.

In such cases, it’s essential to use softer colors around the photo and avoid warm colors. The cool hues bring out the subjects in the picture and provide a more natural feel to the image.

Not only is discoloration a common issue, so is shadowing. Those darker areas in photos are hard to miss, but you can discreetly hide those flaws, and make them part of your scrapbook design. With this photo, for example, I chose items with darker colors that complemented the shadowing on the right side.

This didn’t require me to cover up any part of this precious photo, but to simply turn this challenge into a charming feature that blends into the rest of the page. Using a bright or bold embellishment here would have pointed out the flaws and taken your eyes off the lovely girls in the photo.

Sun flares and water spots are among the most challenging flaws to conceal when you scrapbook these memories. As you’ll witness in the video, this image had quite a few. Instead of trying to hide them, I chose to use my embellishments to redirect the viewer’s focus.

The chipboard hearts act like arrows pointing down toward the title and the flowing word moves the eye across the page. The flaws are still apparent, but they loose focus as the eyes are drawn towards the rest of the photo.

In this simple video, you will learn how to how to enhance the beauty of your photo, without drawing attention to its flaws. Today, I will be using the Revitalize Kit from {Not} Just for Boys Kit Club, to demonstrate how to select colors and seamlessly blend photo imperfections using elements in the kit.

Now it’s time to dig out those not-so-perfect photos and make these imperfections a part of your design. Using these simple techniques, you can add depth and character to your next scrapbook creation.
