Simple Ways to Use a Cut File on a Scrapbook Page

As someone who loves coffee and paper crafting, I’m always searching for ways to incorporate coffee-related icons into my projects. Today, I’m excited to share a heartfelt memory of a mother and daughter bonding over coffee on a scrapbook page, complete with a coffee cut file. Although I usually take the time to fill every part of a cut file, I opted for a simpler approach this time around. In this video, I’ll demonstrate a speedy method for backing a cut file using the Cricut, and show you how easily this page came together.

To create this stunning layout, I used items from the September Hip Kit and a cut file that perfectly matched the collection. Since we had an abundance of Awana training planned this month, I decided to keep the process simple by using a single pattern cut file and floral elements.

I began with a simple mixed-media background, using items from previous color kits. I prepped my cardstock with gesso, brushed Lindy’s Magical Powder over the top, and then created a leaf design with a stencil and fluffy modeling paste. The yellow created a lovely contrast to the cardstock outline of the tea cups.

Instead of cutting individual pieces for my coffee cups, I opted for a solid piece of pattern paper. To speed up the cutting process, I used the contour tool in Cricut Design Space to make a complete backing piece for my tower of cups. After adding the photo to the page, I selected floral die cuts that matched the color of the brush strokes in the pattern paper to create layers on my page. These paired well with the florals on the cut file and created some lovely decorations on the cups. Placing the floral elements diagonally behind the photo added depth and dimension to the page.

Although the September Color kit included beautiful floral stamps with layered stencils and dies, I opted for the floral die cuts to save time and complete the layout quickly.

This large floral bundle serves as an excellent anchor point and frame for my photo. This also establishes the larger portion of an asymmetrical design due to its weight.

On the opposite side of the page, I added another bundle of florals to complete the design. I incorporated a few product strips to frame the layout and created a space for my title.

On the left side of the page, I layered matching florals over the product strips and added a tag. For the title, I used a stamp from the pocket life kit and stamped it in a complementary purple color. The phrase “Good Days Start with Coffee” was the perfect addition to complete the page.

While adding layers of paper to cut files can be enjoyable, it’s not always necessary. In fact, simplifying the design can result in an even more beautiful finished product. By using the contour tool in Cricut Design Space, the process is even easier. Be sure to turn on YouTube notifications to catch the tutorial on this technique.
