After collecting feedback from my YouTube survey, it was clear that many of you face challenges with creating embellishment clusters on scrapbook pages. Today, I want to share a few helpful tips and tricks to help you overcome this hurdle and make your next project even more beautiful.
This page was created using the new Honey Comb kit from {Not} Just for Boys kit club. The designs in this collection are ideal for your spring and summer memories. The patterns are playful and evoke a sense of joy and liveliness that is perfect for the season.
Embellishments can be used to draw attention to specific areas of a page and create movement within the layout. To get started, select anchor pieces and place them in three key areas of the page.
These pieces should be larger than the other items and act as grounding elements within your design. On this page, hexagon shapes were used as anchor pieces and repeated throughout the layout.
Floral pieces were added to frame the photo and draw your eye to the focal point of the page. The different sizes and shapes of the flowers were repeated in other floral clusters. Balance was achieved by placing larger flowers at the base of the photo and smaller ones at the top.
Mixing small, medium, and large embellishments creates visual interest and helps your cluster feel more balanced. I wanted to add more weight to the right side of the layout, so I placed a vellum envelope filled with die cuts. Using embellishments with different textures, such as ribbon, lace, or metal, or vellum can add depth and interest to your clusters.
Embellishments play a key role in setting the tone or conveying the theme of a page. For instance, by incorporating a range of images and icons that represent my daughter’s interests, this page communicates her passions and personality.
Each cluster of embellishments is designed to have icons and images with similar colors, shapes, and textures. I find that using odd numbers of embellishments is also more visually pleasing than even numbers.
There are times when I just need to experiment with different placements for embellishments until I find a configuration that feels balanced and visually attractive. I continue to work with the layers, overlapping different embellishments until I have depth and interest.
