A few of you have requested scrapbook page designs with more than one photo, which is why I was excited when January Scrap the Boys announced their multi-photo challenge. I recently joined the design team and can’t wait to share more boy pages with you.
This archery layout has a masculine feel to it, but, as a novice archer, I feel like this page could be created for anyone who enjoys this sport. I selected two Simple Stories collections for this design. One to match the autumnal colors and another to go with the nature theme of the layout.
This archery range we frequent is near a lake, making the lake collection perfect for this page. I struggled with the brighter spring colors of the leaves on those elements, so I brought in items from the autumn collection to balance it out. I layered fall leaves behind and on top of the elements to give them a warmer feel.
The photos themselves are unedited. They were taken at sunset just as the warm fall rays were hitting the dry elements around our son. When I cropped the photos, I used Canva to make each one have the same ground level and branch in the frame so that the row of photos felt scene-like.
Many of the items I added to the page have a warmer feel. The addition of orange, green, and brown go well with the fall colors in the photos and contrast with the blue wood background.
The title itself is a rather bold element. I wanted it to create a horizontal line that spanned the width of the page, so I added elements on either side to lengthen it.
Having a horizontal line of photos, a long horizontal title, and horizontal paper strips, required me to find a way to add some vertical elements for balance. As you look at the page, there is an invisible line of items that leads your eye down the layout.
At the top of the page, the invisible vertical line begins with the orange tab and washi sticker. I also added a fall leaf to give the viewer an idea of the season.
As your eye moves down the title, the orange tab sticker lines up with the bold orange title. The colors in the title match the colors in the washi sticker. I even added a butterfly and leaves to match.
As you move down farther to the tag that spans behind the photos your eyes are drawn to another orange and blue element. These items are the end of that invisible vertical line that led you down the page.
Even though the vertical line is not prominent, it still exists to balance out the horizontal pieces. This is known as vertical slicing. Vertical lines are often more dominant, so breaking them up along the horizontal lines will soften the structure of the layout.

Our family enjoys days on the archery range which is why I captured this memory for my son’s album. These photos are some of my favorites and love how they look with all the fall colors on this page.
