Create Masculine Valentine Cards with a Scrapbook Kit

Cards that are designed for the men in your life are often difficult to create. There are some lovely floral configurations, cute stamped images, and sweet sentiments available for card makers, but they don’t always fit the personality of the men in my life. Today, I am sharing three valentines that I created for my boys using items from a scrapbook kit. ¬†Projects like this are a great way to use leftover components and I hope these inspire you to do just that.

Earlier this month, I used the Nostalgia Limitless Kit from {Not} Just for Boys Kit Club to create a wedding layout. Instead of packing away the rest of the pieces, I chose to use the remaining items to make some valentines for my three sons.

Creating sentiments for the men in my family often involves humor or something mom would say to them.  There were plenty of phrases in the kit to choose from so I picked out a few and added some red sticker letters to create the sentiments on the cards.

Most of these are not very valentine-ish words, but my boys are non-sentimental bearded beasts and I wanted to avoid the eye roll this year when I gave them their cards. The kit is chock full of phrases so feel free to pick out a few that fit the guy in your life.

In addition to the neutral sentiments, I added some ruggedness to the cards with a sanding block, ink distressing, and staples. This gave each one a more masculine feel and created an aged look.

I also designed these cards for you to use on other occasions. The neutral color palettes, vintage feel, and everyday phrases can be used for almost any day of the year.

These cards can also be given to anyone in your life. Even though they have what cardmakers call a “masculine” feel, these are the designs I personally love and would be happy to receive from a friend.

If you would like to see how each of these cards came together, I have a quick video for you that shares a few tips for creating that worn look on your cards.

If you were inspired to create these cards, I would love to know what patterns and sentiments you came up with using items that you had left over in your scrapbook kits. All three of these were designed as valentine cards for my boys, but you can use them for just about any occasion.

If you have any questions about this project or the supplies listed above, feel free to leave me a comment.
