Welcome to the Outdoor Borders Blog Hop

Our team of Makers have some incredible projects to inspire you using the Outdoor Borders stamp set this month. Did you know that you can get these stamps free as a VIP? If you plan on getting this beautiful border stamp set, then you will want to save a few of these ideas because, today, we are going to inspire you.

What is a blog hop? This is a wonderful way for you to gather a few ideas for using a specific element on your projects. You may be just starting here or you may have come from Maureen OSullivan’s blog – either way, you are in the right place.  When you are finished viewing my Summer Rainbow Cards cards video tutorial, click the link at the end of my post to “hop” on over to the next website. If you get lost along the way, you will find the complete list of participating consultants on Melinda’s Blog.

I have been in such a creative funk recently and I can’t seem to get the cogs in my brain dusted off and working. These two Summer Rainbow cards were created back in April for the May Blog Hop, but, as you can see, I used the wrong stamp set. Despite the mishaps, I am grateful that the project was already complete, because today, I am suffering from a lack of creative juices.

I kept the project simple so that I could show off a few of the different designs in the Outdoor Borders stamp set. Each of the images was stamped onto distress watercolor paper with VersaMark Ink then heat embossed using White Embossing powder.

After setting the images with a heat tool, I applied pigment to the images. The embossing powder creates a resist against the pigment allowing the images to stand out on the design.

On the first card, I applied Watercolor Paints which created a very soft beach-like feel to the card. I realized quickly that you need very little water to create the resist. Too much water added to the pigment will cause it to seep under the stamped images.

On the second card, I applied Distress Oxide Inks to create a bright bold summery card. I love how the border images stand out on this design.

On each of the cards, I added some Flower Sequins and Wood Sentiments. The sentiments were shaded using Liquid Pearls, a Black Shimmer Brush, and Stickles. If you would like to learn more ways to shade our wooden sentiments and icons, you can view my video here.

If you would like to see how I created these two cards and get a few more tips and tricks for using the Outdoor Border stamp set, you can view my cardmaking tutorial video below.

I hope that this project inspired you to create a few cards of your own. They are super simple to make and can be recreated using a variety of colors. Now head on over to Haley Dyer’s blog to see her work!  Be sure to visit all of the blogs to get some great crafting tips and other fun ideas.

Don’t forget! The Outdoor Borders stamp set is only available during the month of June. Contact your CTMH Consultant, or visit my website to learn how you can get this stamp set for FREE as a VIP or at a discounted price of $5.00 with a qualifying order.

I hope this inspired you to try something new. If you have any questions about this project or the supplies listed above, feel free to leave me a comment.

  2. I’m sorry you’re in a creative funk. I hope that breaks soon. In the meantime, I really do like what you did with these cards. I found the difference between using watercolors and Distress Oxides interesting. Sending hugs and as many creative juices as will flow through cyberspace. 🙂

  3. I love how fantastic the resist technique looks on your cards! I love what you did!

  4. Love these, Carrie. I think the bright one packs more of a punch, but there’s something about the subtle colours of the paler one that speaks to me. Can’t wait to try this technique! Thank you for including a video 🙂
