What is a blog hop? This is a wonderful way for you to gather a few ideas for using a specific element on your projects. You may be just starting here or you may have come from Maureen OSullivan’s blog – either way, you are in the right place. When you are finished viewing my Summer Rainbow Cards cards video tutorial, click the link at the end of my post to “hop” on over to the next website. If you get lost along the way, you will find the complete list of participating consultants on Melinda’s Blog.
I have been in such a creative funk recently and I can’t seem to get the cogs in my brain dusted off and working. These two Summer Rainbow cards were created back in April for the May Blog Hop, but, as you can see, I used the wrong stamp set. Despite the mishaps, I am grateful that the project was already complete, because today, I am suffering from a lack of creative juices.

I kept the project simple so that I could show off a few of the different designs in the Outdoor Borders stamp set. Each of the images was stamped onto distress watercolor paper with VersaMark Ink then heat embossed using White Embossing powder.
After setting the images with a heat tool, I applied pigment to the images. The embossing powder creates a resist against the pigment allowing the images to stand out on the design.

On the first card, I applied Watercolor Paints which created a very soft beach-like feel to the card. I realized quickly that you need very little water to create the resist. Too much water added to the pigment will cause it to seep under the stamped images.
On the second card, I applied Distress Oxide Inks to create a bright bold summery card. I love how the border images stand out on this design.

On each of the cards, I added some Flower Sequins and Wood Sentiments. The sentiments were shaded using Liquid Pearls, a Black Shimmer Brush, and Stickles. If you would like to learn more ways to shade our wooden sentiments and icons, you can view my video here.
If you would like to see how I created these two cards and get a few more tips and tricks for using the Outdoor Border stamp set, you can view my cardmaking tutorial video below.
I hope that this project inspired you to create a few cards of your own. They are super simple to make and can be recreated using a variety of colors. Now head on over to Haley Dyer’s blog to see her work! Be sure to visit all of the blogs to get some great crafting tips and other fun ideas.

This is such a fun way to create backgrounds- I think I am partial to the bright one but both are lovely!
Thank you. They are really simple, but I hope they gave you a few ideas.
Ooh, these cards are so cool!

Beautiful cards! I love your gorgeous backgrounds!
Thank you. I hope you give them a try.
I’m sorry you’re in a creative funk. I hope that breaks soon. In the meantime, I really do like what you did with these cards. I found the difference between using watercolors and Distress Oxides interesting. Sending hugs and as many creative juices as will flow through cyberspace. 🙂
Thank you, friend. The two mediums are very different. You should give them a try.
Love your cards! They are so bright and fun! Way to go!
Thanks so much. I hope the project inspired you.

I love how fantastic the resist technique looks on your cards! I love what you did!
Thank you. I just added a video tutorial so that you can see how it all comes together.
Fantastic cards! I love the boldness of the oxide inks but the watercolor one is wonderful too. I will be replicating these!
Thank you. I can’t wait to see what you create.
Love both of your cards!! The oxide ink one if my favorite as I love the bold colors. I totally need to replicate this!!
Your cards are fabulous!
Thank you
What a great technique to use with this stamp set! Your cards look great!
I am glad you like it. I hope it inspired you.
Love these, Carrie. I think the bright one packs more of a punch, but there’s something about the subtle colours of the paler one that speaks to me. Can’t wait to try this technique! Thank you for including a video 🙂
I’m so glad you enjoy them. I can’t wait to see what you create!!
