Layered Die Cut Techniques for Stunning Cards
Looking for fresh card making inspiration using your favorite die sets? Today, I’m sharing a cheerful and creative way to combine layered die cut elements from the stunning Spellbinders La Dolce Vita Collection. With a little creativity and thoughtful layering, you can build beautifully balanced cards using coordinating dies and this sunny design is the perfect example.

This card making project is a sunny celebration of layered dies and clever composition! I combined three sets from the Spellbinders La Dolce Vita Collection to create this whimsical card. I had so much fun crafting this whimsical “Hello Sunshine” card, and I hope it inspires you to explore new ways to use your dies beyond a single set. Let’s dive in and take a closer look at how I brought this playful scene together!

To bring this playful scene to life, I started with the Under the Sun Etched Dies, which include a bold, stylized sun face that makes the perfect centerpiece. I added stitching details and layered the pieces to give it some dimension.

I then layered the Beyond the Door Etched Dies behind it, using the beautiful archway shape and vines to build a scene that feels fresh, vibrant, and full of life. The bold circular sun atop a detailed arch and vines, gives the design structure while still allowing the focal point to shine.
With so many vibrant elements on this card, I kept the background soft and clean. A little ink blending with light blue tones helped set the scene and doesn’t compete with the images. I used leafy vines to soften the hard edges of the die cuts and add a natural touch to the background. Nature shapes like leaves and branches help fill in empty areas.

The final touch was a simple sentiment using the La Dolce Vita Banners Etched Dies to anchor the card and add a soft horizontal break to the design. The vertical arch draws the eye upward, while the curved sentiment banner creates a grounding effect. This helps guide the viewer’s eye naturally across the card.
The Spellbinders La Dolce Vita Collection is full of coordinating pieces that can be mixed and matched to build beautiful, storytelling scenes. Let me know how you plan to combine your favorite dies from this collection.
I can’t wait to see what you create!
