Cheerful Spring Card Idea with Fly a Kite Dies

Spring is in the air, and I’m loving every minute of it! Today I’m sharing a cheerful handmade card idea that’s perfect for capturing those light, breezy vibes we all love this time of year. If you’re looking for spring card inspiration, a fun way to use Simon Hurley’s Fly a Kite dies, or a fresh twist on your die cut cardmaking, you’re in the right place!

This project was created using the new Fly a Kite Etched Dies from the Sky’s the Limit Collection by Simon Hurley. These dies are perfect for making spring and summer greeting cards, and they give you so much flexibility to mix and match kite shapes, strings, and bows.

I had so much fun working with this set, and I can’t wait to show you how easy it is to use these dies to create your own uplifting designs. This kite-themed card features soft spring colors, textured stitching, and a dreamy cloud background — ideal for sending smiles.

Tiny die cuts can sometimes feel like they’re floating on a card unless you give them a little context. It’s important to “ground” them. To help my kite take center stage, I used a polka-dot photo-style frame around the scene. This adds structure, directs the eye, and gives it a nostalgic, snapshot vibe—like capturing a sweet spring day on film!

Don’t be afraid to add a few stitches here and there to your die cuts for a more dimensional and tactile result. The little hand-stitched detail on the kite adds just the right amount of texture and makes the design feel finished. It’s a small step, but one that adds a big impact!

No cloud stencil? No problem! I cut out a few fluffy shapes from scrap cardstock and used them as a custom stencil. A soft blend of Distress Oxide ink gave me that light, airy background.

The Fly a Kite die set includes three unique kite styles and a collection of strings, bows, and ribbons that give you the freedom to make something all your own. You can easily change the sentiment, color scheme, or kite design to suit any occasion.

I’m so excited to see the projects that you create. Don’t forget to share your finished creations with me. You can leave me a comment below with a direct link or tag @misscarriescreations on your favorite social media site.
