A Simple Watercolor Card Design for Every Season

If you’ve ever found yourself wanting to recreate one of your favorite handmade cards, you’re in for a treat! There’s nothing quite like the joy of dusting off an old card and giving it a fresh spin for a new season. Being able to recycle and repurpose a beloved handmade card design allows you to relive the memories associated with the original card and gives you the opportunity to add a new twist to it.

Both cards feature a charming bundle of florals complemented by a modest die-cut sentiment. The fall design is filled with warm autumn tones and a distressed finish, while the spring version radiates with freshness and brightness. The transformation from a fall palette with rugged textures to a light and vibrant spring design was truly refreshing.

During this week’s live stream, I shared some simple watercolor techniques while creating this delightful spring-themed card inspired by a design I first created last fall. My goal was to demonstrate simple watercolor techniques on the floral elements.

Would you like to learn one of my watercolor secrets? For smaller stamped images, I use heat embossing on the designs. The raised image acts as a barrier for the watercolors, preventing them from having a chalky finish.

During my Crafty Coffee Hour, I chose to keep the process simple. The watercolor pigment was applied with a wet-on-wet technique. The color was dripped into each image and allowed to flow out onto the petals and leaves. Throughout the livestream, I also divulged tips on layering colors to create depth and visual interest.

To complete the card, I layered the bundle of florals over some adorable pattern paper from the Boho Sunshine collection. I added a simple die-cut sentiment and a sticker phrase for an extra touch of charm.

Join me every Thursday for Crafty Coffee Hour, where I host engaging classes on cardmaking, scrapbooking, and Cricut projects. Grab your favorite brew and chat with me as we unleash our creativity together!

I hope this inspired you to try something new. If you have any questions about this project or the supplies listed above, feel free to leave me a comment.
