Simple Card Backgrounds with Catherine Pooler Ink

Have you ever faced challenges finding the ideal patterned paper or cardstock for your card-making projects? Sometimes I don’t have the exact pattern or color I need, so I craft my own unique designs with inks. Inks offer great versatility and open up a world of creative possibilities. In today’s video, I’ll demonstrate how to create two distinct background designs using ink and share some fun ways you can use them on your spring-themed cards.

Easter is right around the corner, so I thought it would be a great time to show you how to make these lovely cards using the new Party Ink collection from Catherine Pooler. How yummy are these three new colors?! They are perfect for spring!

One technique I love sharing involves creating distinctive background patterns. When I received these three new colors – Frosted, Lemon Sorbet, and Creamsicle, I immediately wanted to create a plaid design. Plaid is a personal favorite of mine, and it can be easily made using masking.

In the video below, I share how simple this pattern is to make with using only Mint tape, a sticky mat, blending brushes and ink. I chose a simple plaid pattern, but the possibilities are almost endless.

I also find joy in creating beautiful watercolor splashes, but I often cheat when I make them. Instead of using brushes and pain, I use a simple block stamping method. Rest assured, it’s simpler than it appears.

The Ukrainian Egg stamp and die set was used to design the sentiments and egg patterns on both cards. This collection is truly unique for the spring season, and I’m excited to incorporate it into my upcoming Easter scrapbooking layouts.

Throughout the video tutorial, I will show you how to design unique card backgrounds using ink from your supplies. You will discover simple masking techniques as you learn to create each layer of a plaid pattern, along with an imaginative approach using stamping blocks for a watercolor-style effect. These methods are simple to reproduce and can be customized in different colors to match your card themes.

So, are you feeling some beautiful Easter vibes right now?! These card designs are incredibly easy to create using just inks, stamps, and dies. Let your favorite design inspire you and ignite your own creativity as you create your own unique card backgrounds.

I hope this inspired you to try something new. If you have any questions about this project or the supplies listed above, feel free to leave me a comment.
