Are you eager to learn how to design a simple mixed media background for your fall pages? Join me as I complete my final autumn scrapbook layout with a new product and share a creative mixed media background you can create for any season.
This Thanksgiving family layout was created with elements from the October Hip Kit collection. The color kit for this month came with Lindy’s powders, which were new to me, so I took some time to familiarize myself with them. In today’s video, I will be sharing some tips and tricks on how to use these powders.
SUPPLIES: October Main Kit, October Cardstock, October Embellishment Kit, October Color Kit, More Lindy’s Magicals, Modeling Paste, All Purpose Scraper, Black Silicone Mat, Clear Gesso, White Acrylic Paint, Glassboard (20% off Code CARRIE20), Glassboard Magnets, Photo Printer, Sewing Machine, Spellbinder Platinum 6 Machine, Organizer Tray, Fine Point Scissors, Edge Distresser, Mint Tape, T-Ruler, Die Release Tool, Foam Dots, Skinny Foam Tape, Tape Runner, Foam Adhesive Sheets
By using a stencil and modeling paste, I was able to create a stunning textured background. The stencil in the kit is 6″ x 6″, so I started in the center of the page, and worked my way outwards to ensure that the leaves overlapped and formed a cohesive pattern. Once the paste had dried, I was able to create this amazing autumnal background with the Lindy’s powders.
Lindy’s Magical are a pigment based ink in powder form. They are designed to be mixed with water to create a water-washed design. Instead of mixing the powders with water, I used a fan brush to sprinkling them over the paste.
After adding a coating of powder, I sprayed water over the top to create this mix of fall hues. This method also brought out additional colors in the pigments and created new hues as the colors mixed.
With so many colors being added to the right side of the page, I opted to keep the right side clean and simple. I included some texture with rows of house die cuts to add visual interest. The white-on-white design element added the perfect amount of texture to my design.
In addition to the textures I added in the background, I brought in more texture with vellum leaves, chipboard, and ribbon.
Translucent vellum leaves are an excellent choice for adding texture to your photographs. The background texture shines through beautifully, while the chipboard creates a lovely frame around the image.
