Four Simple Scrapbooking Hacks

Over the years, I’ve developed a few tricks that have made scrapbooking easier and quicker. So much so, that I’ve incorporated them into my everyday creative process. I’m going to share four of my favorite hacks with you today and show you how I use them in my layouts.

HACK 1 – Control Torn Edges with a Waterbrush: Torn paper edges are a popular choice for scrapbook layouts, but sometimes it can be challenging to match up two layers of torn paper. Fortunately, there’s a solution! By using a water brush, you can draw an invisible line where you want to create the torn edge. The water softens the fibers, making them much easier to manipulate and giving you greater control over the torn design.

HACK 2 – Incorporate Pocket Life Elements: While I don’t necessarily keep track of memories through pocket life, I do enjoy incorporating PL elements in my scrapbook layouts. HipKit provides an assortment of journal cards, tags, tabs, and small prints that work perfectly for full-size pages. To make things even easier, many of these elements can be cut out using matching metal dies.

HACK 3 – Incorporate Stitching in Your Design: Personally, I believe that thread is an excellent way to add texture to a layout. By using stitched lines, you can create borders, directional lines, and embellishments that enhance the overall design.

While I generally prefer a sewing machine for my projects, I have also utilized hand-embroidered designs, dies, and stamps to create unique stitches. If you would like more instruction on using a sewing machine or stitching alternatives, let me know.

HACK 4 – Gain an Extra Hand with Fabric Clips: When I was making paper tassels for my layout, I found it challenging to hold the trim together while the glue dried. That’s where fabric clips came in handy! They work well with paper and are specifically designed not to damage or leave any marks on your material. I used them frequently to hold items in place.

One of my favorite embellishments is the tassels, and they are incredibly easy to make. Inspired by the July Hip Kit Mood Board challenge and the photos, I used elements from the June Kit to create a stunning wedding engagement layout.

Watch today’s video to learn how I incorporated these pieces and created a few paper tassels for your next project.
