The moon on this card was my favorite item to create. I love showing you new ways to use the supplies you already own and this moon is the perfect example.

Instead of creating a full inked background, I used the Crater Layers stencil on a 3.5″ circle to create a moon full of texture and depth. The layered stencil shapes gave me the perfect base to blend in different tones of gray and soft shadowing.
The star of the card is the layered rocket ship! Using the Blast Off die set, I cut out each layer and added shading with Tri-Blend markers. I used a mix of light blues with darker edges to give the rocket some depth.

To create shadows within the die cut layers, I added black behind some of the pieces. Not only does this make the silver stand out, it adds dimension without using foam tape.
Want to see exactly how this card came together? I walk you through each step from ink blending that crater background to layering the die cuts and adding color with markers. Don’t forget to like, comment, and subscribe so you never miss a crafty tip or tutorial!

I hope this project inspired you to look at your stencils and dies in a whole new way. You can use these techniques on so many types of cards or customize this card with gems, stars, or even light-up elements using Pear Blossom Press lights! (I made a version with light-up stars for Creativation—so fun!)
