If you are struggling to find your creative spark, today’s project is just for you. These simple card designs are quick to make and are sure to bring a little nostalgic joy to your day.
The “You Rock” kit from Color Rush Studio has a retro vibe that screams 1980s fun. This decade was known for bright neon colors, bold shapes, and eclectic designs. It was a decade where fashion, music, and art collided in vibrant and unexpected ways.
SUPPLIES: You Rock Main Kit, White Cardstock, Black Cardstock, Cricut Joy, Cricut Joy Standard Grip Mat, Black Lustre Brush, Spun Sugar Distress Oxide, Worn Lipstick Distress Oxide, Picked Raspberry Distress Oxide, Squeezed Lemonade Distress Oxide, Altenew Black & White Enamel Dots, Black Embroidery Thread, Size 14 Embroidery Needle, Embroidery Wax, Clearly Amazing Mat, Glassboard, Stack-n-Sort Trays, Fine Point Scissors, Mint Tape, Die Release Tool, Foam Dots, Skinny Foam Tape, Glue Dots, Bearly Art Glue, Tape Runner, Foam Adhesive Sheets
For these cards, I decided to embrace the 80’s vibe by creating triangle shapes. The easiest way to design these was using Cricut Design Space, and I used my Cricut Joy to cut out the pieces. The papers in this kit are thicker than standard pattern paper and have a glossy finish, so I set my materials to medium cardstock and increased the pressure to high.
Irregular triangles can also be cut by hand, but if you’re experiencing a creative block, I am going to simplify this project for you. If you own a Cricut machine, I’ve included a link to my Design Space file for you to use.
For those of you without a Cricut, don’t worry! I’ve included a link to a PDF file with triangle shapes that you can easily trace and cut by hand.

The triangle shapes, paired with black and white checks and hot pink accents, instantly transport you back to the 1980s. I added ink to the puffy pink letter stickers to enhance their vibrancy. The “cool boy” foam thickers have a matte plaid paper cover, making them easy to customize with distress oxide ink while allowing the plaid design to shine through.
Triangles are just the beginning! Feel free to experiment with rectangles, squares, or a mix of shapes and colors to suit your style. If you’re not a fan of the emoji or star shapes I used, the kit also includes florals and tags, offering endless possibilities for customization.
Whether you choose to follow this pattern exactly or add your own twist, what truly matters is that you are engaging in the creative process. In the video, I share more tips and show you how quickly these cards come together.
My goal today was to show you two card designs that you can easily replicate to ignite your creative juices. I challenge you to grab one of your kits and make a few cards with a retro vibe today. Remember, the best part of creating is making something uniquely yours.
