If you’ve been curious about laser engraving but felt intimidated by the tech, bulky machines, or complicated software, I have something exciting to share with you!

I’ve been testing out the brand-new WeCreat Lumos portable laser engraver, and I’m honestly blown away by what it can do. It’s compact, powerful, and most importantly – crafter friendly. This isn’t one of those machines that requires an engineering degree to figure out.

As someone who wants to spend more time crafting than tinkering with tech, I was so relieved at how easy the Lumos was to set up. I had it out of the box, plugged in, and engraving within minutes.

Everything from the magnetic protective cone to the rotary tool attachment snaps into place intuitively. No tiny screws, no weird calibration steps. And it’s lightweight and portable, which means I don’t need to rearrange my whole craft space just to use it.

The software that comes with the Lumos is called Make-It™. It reminds me many other design apps I have used. It’s user-friendly with multiple beginner projects built in.

You get a real-time HD camera preview, so you can see exactly where your design will land before you press “go.” No wasted blanks, no guesswork. You can literally drag and drop your image into place and start engraving. It also supports batch processing, AI image tools, and even 3D previews for rotary items!

To really test the Lumos, I engraved seven very different projects using a variety of materials. Here’s what I made:

  • A cork coaster with a delicate coffee bean design
  • A birch wood panel with engraved summer images
  • A leather tag for a gift project (burned cleanly with no char)
  • An aluminum dog tag for our grandpup
  • A brass jewelry blank with micro-engraving
  • A tumbler on the rotary attachment
  • A detailed cardstock title for a scrapbook page (yes—it cuts paper, too!)

That’s seven projects, all done on one machine in less than 30 minutes! Just tweak the settings in the software and let the Lumos work its magic.
