One of the questions I hear most often is, “How do I use my 6×8 papers on a larger 12×12 page?” Today, I’m sharing a simple scrapbook process that will help you stretch your supplies, make the most of those smaller paper pads, and create a layout that comes together quickly. If you’ve been looking for an easy summer project, this is a great one to try!
For this page, I used papers and embellishments from the June Hip Kit Club collection, but you can absolutely recreate the design with items from your own stash. I love how the 6×8 papers shine on a full 12×12 background, and how the strawberries, stitching, and mixed media details bring everything together. By keeping the process simple, I was able to enjoy making this page and still have time for more summer memory keeping.

The star of this project is the 6×8 patterned paper pack. We all have small pattern papers or scraps in our stash, and this design is a simple way to use them up.
I trimmed several sheets into 1¾-inch squares and arranged them in a playful grid. By repeating colors and patterns, the grid feels cohesive and balanced instead of busy.
I backed my photo with a deeper shade of cardstock to help it stand out against the lighter squares. This is a great trick when your background feels busy. Around that page, I added a darker frame instantly pulls the focus back to the photo.
Because my photo captured a strawberry picnic, I thought it would be fun to add a few custom strawberry embellishments. Using the Berries and Blooms metal dies, I cut strawberries, stems, and leaves from soft watercolor papers. Layering different shades of pinks and greens gave them a realistic look that tied perfectly into the theme of the page.
I also used a chipboard title from the kit, brushed it with Magicals to bring out the resist design, and layered it with tags, a sun icon, and some puffy stickers. To keep the layout feeling light and fresh, I kept my embellishment clusters simple to avoid overwhelming the page.
One of my favorite details on this page is the stitching. I ran simple grid stitches across my squares, added a few zigzags near the sun, and stitched some circles around my title. These little touches of texture bring the page to life and make the patterns feel more connected.

This layout was such a fun reminder that you don’t need full-size papers to create a full-size impact. With a little creativity, those 6×8 pads can become the star of your 12×12 pages.
I hope this project inspires you to try a grid design, play with a bit of mixed media, or create your own themed embellishments. And remember -sometimes less is more! Simplifying your clusters and repeating patterns is a great way to speed up the process and still end up with a beautiful page.
