Unlock the world of mixed media in scrapbooking without drowning in a sea of wet, messy mediums. As one who struggles with mixed media, I feel like it’s time to demystify the art and reveal the simplicity it can bring to your scrapbook pages. In today’s video, we’ll redefine mixed media and showcase how a touch of texture paste, a hint of crepe paper, and a dash of thread can be mixed together with a splash of creativity to elevate your scrapbook game.
This summer scrapbook page is not only visually stunning, it’s a breeze to create! Using elements from the September Hip Kit, I added a small amount of texture paste, crepe paper from the kit, and a bit of stitching to transform this page into w work of art.

Before we dive into the hands-on part, let’s clarify what mixed media truly means in the realm of scrapbooking. It’s not about overwhelming yourself with a plethora of wet mediums but rather about layering different materials to create texture and visual interest.
The stars of your show are your photos and materials. You don’t need to spend a fortune on mixed media products. In fact, that is all the texture paste you need for this masterpiece. Simple, right?
And don’t forget the crepe paper rosettes that add a touch of whimsy to your layout.
These adorable rosettes were created using the bright pink crepe paper included in the September Hip Kit. I cut the wide paper in half to create two thinner strips, then created pleats atop a small cardstock circle.
Each rosette was topped with a pattern paper circle and a cute little embellishment. I chose premade stars, twine, and puffy stickers to keep it simple.
Let’s break down the process. In this video, I’ll guide you through each step, showing you how to make the most out of these minimalistic materials. Here’s a simple process video to show you how easy this layout was to create.
As you can see, using mixed media on your scrapbook pages doesn’t have to be a daunting task. With just a small amount of texture paste, pretty crepe paper, and a bit of thread, you can infuse your scrapbook pages with creativity and charm. Remember, simplicity is the key to making mixed media work for you.
