Creative Design Team Video Blog Hop

Welcome to our FIRST Creative Design Team Video Collaborators Hop! 81671089_10158243384996122_8346218923351343104_nI have the special privilege of joining an amazingly talented group of ladies who will be sharing their crafting videos with you.  This month, we are showcasing a few of our Close to My Heart holiday products that are being used in creative new ways.  If you get lost along the way, you can view the complete list of participants here on my blog – Creative Design Team Hop.

It is obviously Monday in cold Colorado and many of you had the pleasure of receiving a blank blog post in your email today. With the new year, I made a few changes to my blog and one of those changes was to plan ahead and schedule posts so that I would stay on top of things.  Great in theory. 🙄 In order to execute that plan, I need to check my list occasionally.  So… I am asking you to please forgive this scatter-brained creative and enjoy today’s creation.

This month, our Creative Design Team was challenged with the task to use holiday products in a new way.  We all have some leftovers in our scrap-bin (or maybe some pieces you have never cut into) and, with the holidays now over, we want to find ways to use them.  Our Design Team has put together some great videos showing you how to do just that.  On my Joy of Farm Life layout, I have used a plethora of Close to My Heart holiday products and listed each one of them at the very bottom of this post.

In my video, I go into much more detail, but you can see a few of the items I used in my photos above.  The title was created using some Cedar & Pine Stickers & Tags, and a border sticker from the Holly Jolly Collection.  Even though this scrapbook page has nothing to do with Christmas, I was able to use up quite a few of my paper scraps and leftover stickers to create a memorable layout of my son.

If you would like to see the full process video and “hop” though to see all the creations made by our Creative Design Team, you can click on the link below.

I want to thank you for stopping by today, and, again, ask your forgiveness for the blank Monday posting.  All of the items I have used on my project are available, while supplies last, on my website.  I hope that this project has inspired you to use up those leftover holiday products and try something new.

Best Friends FURever Blog Hop

This blog hop is simple, fun, and full of artwork created by some very talented consultants.  If you get lost along the way, you’ll find the complete list of participating consultants on Melinda’s Blog.

When I first saw  the Best Friends FURever papers, I couldn’t wait to make a layout of our little furball. Now that the kids are grown, I have just as many, if not more photos of her than I do of my kids.  She is our little lap dog who brings us so much joy, and I can’t image life without her. MissCarriesCreations-FurBabyLayout

Let me walk you through how I created this layout. I started by adding some Opaque Texture Paste to a striped Kraft paper. I designed a heart overlay in Design Space™, cut it from Vellum, and attached it to the page over the Texture Paste.

I have created a FREE CUT FILE for you to use in Design Space. You will need to own the images from the Artbooking collection to cut out this image.

Most of the paper strips came from the Best Friends FURever paper packet. I was in need of one additional pattern and discovered that the Dots paper from the Mix-Ins pack matched these papers perfectly. A chevron was cut into the bottom of each strip, the strips placed onto the background, then stitched with a sewing machine.

I added the photo with a Kraft paper mat, and some of the stickers from the Best Friends FURever paper pack.  When adding embellishments to your projects, always make sure you have designed a Visual Triangle. This creates flow and balance to any layout.♥

I have created a short process video to teach you about creating a Visual Triangle and show you  how I created the elements on this layout.

Now ‘Hop” on over to Melinda Everitt’s blog to see her work! Be sure to visit all the Consultants at their blogs to get some great crafting tips and other fun ideas. These Best Friends FURever products are only available through December 31stwhile supplies last, so be sure to contact your CTMH Consultant, or visit my website to order the supplies to make this layout.

I can’t wait to see what you create!

Are You Ready to Learn Something New?

This week, while I am at the Close to My Heart Convention, I have decided to do a recap of some of my favorite tutorials from the past year. Quite a few of you have joined me recently, so I figured that this was the best time to, not only share some great projects with you, but show you a few that you might have missed.  If you have already viewed these tutorials, I hope that this little refresher will inspire you to create something new.

♥ Basic Watercolor Techniques

If you are just starting out with watercolor pencils, or you are wanting to pick them up again, my Using Watercolor Pencils tutorial is a great read. I walk you through a few techniques for using our amazing pencils and inspire you with a beautiful card I made using our Feels Like Home papers.

♥ Playing with Paper Pom-Poms

MissCarriesCreations-PaperPomPomHeader

Although this was a St Patrick’s Day decoration, I have considered CASEing myself and recreating it for fall. These adorable little pom-poms are so simple to make and fun to use on your paper crafts.

♥ Watercolor Embossed Backgrounds

MissCarriesCreations-MyBestieWatercolorCard-Header

The card I created with this technique was one of my favorite creations. The vivid watercolor background paired with vellum made it simple and elegant. I would love for you to give this Watercolor Background technique a try, and share it in our VIP Group.

♥ Using a Visual Triangle

LayersBH-AnniversaryLayoutHeader-misscarriescreations

Have you heard of using a visual triangle to create balance on your layouts? If not, this tutorial will walk you through how I used this technique to create a balanced layout of our anniversary trip to the Botanical garden.

Did you learn something new? Were you inspired to give one of these techniques a try? As a Close to My Heart consultant, I truly enjoy showing you how to create something you love and want to share with the ones you care about.  Please feel free to share what you created in the comments below or in my VIP Facebook Group.

I can’t wait to see what you create!
