Create a Vivid Valentine Card

for the Color My Heart Color Dare Challenge

After almost a month away, I am back in my creative space developing paper crafts for the Color My Heart Color Dare Design Team. This week, we are playing with the Celebrate Today papers and asking you to use the colors in this Tic-Tac-Toe color palette to create something for the challenge.

On my Vivid Valentine Card, I chose to use the colors on the top row – Raspberry, Lagoon, & Ballerina – with an added color that I have NEVER used – Nectarine.  To be honest, I am not  an “orange or yellow” person. That color is not in my wardrobe, in my home, or in my crafts, but, today, I decided to give it a try and I really like it

As you can see, I used the Nectarine color sparingly.  I was extremely nervous when I first pulled the flower off the Celebrate Today sticker sheet.  This is not a color I am comfortable with, and I wasn’t quite sure how well it would fit into my design, but, after the leaves were removed, I was delightfully surprised

The flower wasn’t the only element I altered for this card. The sentiment was a “love it” banner on the sheet Celebrate Today Vellum Die Cuts.  By simply cutting off the word “it”, covering what was left, and adhering it to my paper, you would have never known what the initial design looked like (unless you are looking really closely).

The letter “U” was also modified to match the design of the card. These Foam Alphabet Letters are white and easy to color with inks, markers, and Shimmer Brushes – like I did here.  I will warn you: they need time to dry and it helps to add a clear coat of Liquid Glass over the color if it doesn’t completely set, otherwise, the color will rub off the letter onto your project. (Don’t ask me how I know. It wasn’t pretty.)

Once all the elements were placed onto the card, I took a step back and decided to add even more Nectarine. Can you believe it?  I cut a small floral strip from the Mix-Ins paper pack and found a little piece of ribbon in my stash that matched perfectly.  Close to My Heart knew what they were doing when they designed the Celebrate Today products – all the colors coordinate beautifully.

I hope that today’s project has inspired you to try something new – like Nectarine – and join us for the Color My Heart Color Dare challenge. You do not have to use the Celebrate Today papers, but if you like them as much as I do, you will want to snag them before they retire at the end of February.  These papers, stickers, and die cuts can be found on my website and are available while supplies last

Cherishing Her SOTM Blog Hop

Welcome to the Cherishing Her Stamp of the Month blog hop where we will be featuring a variety of projects using our exclusive February stamp set.79313734_10157017867222686_8633536275355271168_n If you have come here from Michelle Loncar’s blog, you are on the right path. When you are finished reading my post, you can click on the link at the end to move to the next blog. This blog hop is simple, fun, and full of artwork created by some very talented consultants.  If you get lost along the way, you’ll find the complete list of participating consultants on Melinda’s Blog.

These past few weeks I have been playing with our new Card Front Spinner Thin Cuts, and I was so excited when I discovered that the sentiments from the Cherishing Her stamp set fit perfectly.  Once I realized this, I wanted to design a special Valentine Card for our daughter to show her how unique, wonderful, sweet, and cherished she is. I hope she enjoys this Cherishing Her Spinning Valentine.

The card front was cut from cold pressed watercolor paper then stamped using our Intense Black Ink so that I could shade the images with watercolor pencils without worry of the images blurring.  While the card front was drying, I stamped the sentiments onto the “wheel” portion of the card using Sapphire and Candy Apple Inks. The words “spin me” came from the I Chews You Stamp set which just so happens to be on sale this month. (hint hint

When I had finished stamping and shading all the images, I assembled the card using the instructions from the Card Front Spinner Thin Cuts. I had so much fun making this card that I spent the rest of the afternoon making two more Valentine cards using these dies.  If you are not sure how a Spinning Card works, you simply turn the wheel and the sentiments change. In the photos below, you can see how each sentiment changes with the spin of the wheel.

How fun is that?! Each turn allows me to share how I feel about my daughter on my Cherishing Her Spinning Valentine.Personally, I think this would also make a lovely card for Mother’s Day, Grandparent’s Day, or just about any occasion where you want to show someone they are cherished.

Now ‘Hop” on over to Cat Nowak ’s blog to see her amazing creations! Be sure to visit all the Consultants at their blogs to get some great crafting tips and other fun ideas. Come & Create at My February Workshops

This past week, I have fought a nasty virus that knocked me down cold. I had hoped to have a few creations for you, but ended up in bed most of the week so, instead, I have decided to show you I have planned for my upcoming Local & Online classes.

Let Me First Tell You How My Classes Work

  • If you are attending a local class, you will need to register online and pre-pay for the class.  Once I have received your registration & payment, you will receive a confirmation email reserving your spot and kit.
  • If you are attending an online class, you will register online and pre-pay if necessary (some classes are free with purchases from my website). In your confirmation email you will receive a link to a PRIVATE Facebook group full of content for you to learn from including cutting guides, videos, and a live video. This content is available to you for 45 days so that you can refer to it as often as needed.

I like to make sure that each class teaches you new techniques and ways to use your supplies. It is important that you “leave” each class with a completed project and are inspired to try something new.
