Welcome to the Slimline Card Blog Hop

Slimline cards have recently become a popular card design and many of you have been searching for inspiration to make a few slimlines of your own. This week, our talented blog hop team has been working diligently to create a few of these tall, thin card designs. We can’t wait to share a few ideas with you.

Our monthly blog hops are a wonderful way for you to gather a few ideas for future projects. Feel free to Pin these projects directly from each of our blogs and save them for later.  You may be just starting here or you may have come from Kim Loewen’s blog – either way, you are in the right place.  When you are finished viewing my Beautiful Butterfly Slimline Card, click the link at the end of my post to “hop” on over to the next website. If you get lost along the way, you will find the list of participating consultants on Melinda’s Blog.

This past month, my creative juices have not been flowing in the right direction. If you follow me on social media, you saw one of my recent attempts at a slimline design and, oh, boy, was it a mess. Even though that card did not turn out how I expected, I was able to learn from my mistakes and create something new.

This gorgeous butterfly card is a small reminder to myself – even after a messy month of disasters I need to remember to love myself. I need to give myself some grace, step away from the craft space, and be happy with the creative mess that I am. Little reminders like this are just God’s way of telling me that everything is going to be okay.

It is for this reason that I used many of the elements from the You Are Enough collection. I just adore all the phrases, patterns, and rose gold elements in that collection. I purposely chose to use a piece of pattern paper that says “beautiful” on this card to add to all the other reminders to be good to yourself.

I also added an elegantly layered die-cut butterfly image to this card. The softness of the vellum plays so well against the soft cream color of the French Vanilla cardstock. I wish the photo could show you how lovely the texture paste background looks with the distress oxide ink. My poor camera has decided to go on strike and I am struggling to get well-detailed photos of my projects this month.

I hope that today’s project inspired you to create a slimline card of your own and I hope that you remember to take a little time to LOVE YOURSELF. Take care of your soul, spend some time in the sun, and enjoy creating something new this week.

Now head on over to  Darlys Recker’s blog to see her work!  Be sure to visit all of the team blogs to get some great crafting tips and other fun slimline card ideas. Remember, the You Are Enough collection is only available while supplies last. If there are any products currently on your wishlist, you might want to head on over to my site and grab them sooner than later.

Creating a Card with Love of Color

How many times have you tried to pick out colors for a project, drug out the color wheel, and become frustrated that nothing seems to match? OR do you stick with a set of colors you know will always work? Well, my friend, today is the day to venture out of your color comfort zone.  I am going to show you a simple way to choose a palette for your project using the Love of Color idea book.

If you are a member of my Create with Miss. Carrie VIP Group, you had a chance to see this card created during my Fab Friday Find video.  I walked you through this wonderful Love of Color book and showed you how to make this card using our September stamp set

This how-to book is designed to help you find complementarity colors for your projects.  On this card, I knew that I wanted to use the Desert Rose cardstock, but I wasn’t quite sure which colors would match.  All I had to do was open up the book to “Desert Rose” and I was shown multiple options for projects and color combinations.

Not only was I able to find a color palette to match Desert Rose, I was also inspired by one of the projects in the book.  This how-to book is FULL of projects you can create using the color combinations shown.  It even tells you where to find the cutting guide in our other how-to books.

For those of you who may have missed out on the Fab Friday Find Video, here is a modified version of the video showing you the Love of Color idea book and the card making process. The full-length version can be viewed in my VIP Group.

This card was really simple to make and fun to create using the Love of Color palette suggestions. I would have never thought to pair Desert Rose with Mint and Ballerina.

I hope that this project inspired you to venture outside your “color comfort zone” and try a few new colors in your designs.  I know that having this book helps me to consider new combinations and I am often inspired by the projects within.

If you would like to purchase either of the Love of Color books or any of our How-to Books, you can do so on my website.  Most of these books fit right inside our 6″ x 8″ Every Day Life Binders making it easy to flip through and transport.

If you would like to recreate this card, make sure that you snag that September stamp of the month before September 30th. This stamp set is available for only $5.00 with any $50 purchase.

I had such a hard time choosing which product to use this week. Partly because both are such incredible products, but mostly because my fall decorations have been sitting in a box in my living room for two weeks and I cannot even contemplate anything that involves Christmas. Yes, ladies, my life in a nutshell. (The squirrels are forever scattered and chased.)

So this week, I chose to avoid Christmas, continue to play with fall papers, and use the delightful Love with All the Trimming stamp set to create this cheerful “Lots of Love” card that I plan on sending out for an upcoming anniversary.

The background for this card is a PML in the Hello Pumpkin paper pack. I took advantage of those little stars and hearts that were already there and strategically placed my other items to cover “Happy Halloween”. The remaining embellishments came from the package of Hello Pumpkin Complements.

Remember how I said I wasn’t ready for Christmas? Well, using a stamp set full of Christmas-y sentiments was a bit of a challenge, but I realized that the “with Lots of Love” sentiment paired with those darling little hearts could be used for any occasion .

That sweet sentiment was placed onto a piece of our NEW Seasonal Mix-Ins and shaded with a Black Shimmer Brush.  I enjoy having this additional paper pack to use on my projects and it blends beautifully with all of our other seasonal papers.

I know that many of you may have expected a Christmas-y card or at least something that said “Happy Holidays”, but my brain cannot even think about tidings, or stockings, or figgy pudding for another month. I hope that you still enjoyed my little paper crafting creations, and continue through the blog hop to see more ideas from a few other Close To My Heart Consultants sharing their creations using products from our Holiday Sparkle and Season of Joy collections.
