Sweet Treats Shaker Card

I am loving our new Shaker Card products so much that I just had to create a card for this week’s heARTfully stamping challenge.  I know that it is not winter yet, nor will is be coming anytime soon where I live, but I couldn’t resist using our Just Treats stamp of the month to create an adorable winter card.

If you have had a chance to look at the new Holiday Expressions, then you probably haven’t seen all of the new Shaker Card products available, OR maybe you saw them and just had no idea what they were.  Today, I am going to give you a quick run down of the new products we carry, along with a few tips that will help you when you make your next shaker card.

Shaker Window Foam & Acetate – How many times have you attempted to make a card only to get frustrated cutting and gluing the acetate to foam tape? Too many for me to count. That is why I ♥LOVE♥ this product.  One quick tip – it has a clear film on one side of the acetate that needs peeled off before adhering it to the foam tape.

Shaker Thin Cuts – These are AWESOME! They are designed to cut frames out to fit the Foam & Acetate perfectly plus you can use them to create your own confetti. HOW COOL IS THAT! Since my shaker was behind the Tag I cut, I didn’t need to use these this time.

Loose Sequins – These come in a bag of Silver Shapes or a bag of Gold Shapes which match just about any project you are working on.  Quick Tip: Tap your Anti-Static Pouch over the Sequins before sealing them up. The powder won’t show and it will prevent them from clinging to the acetate.

So are you ready to try out our new Shaker Card products?! I know you will be tickled how simple and fun they are to use. I can’t wait to see the shaker cards you create!

Thanks a Bushel Step-Card

Life is about trying new things, having experiments blow up in your face, and finding the blessing in everything. This week, I wanted to try my hand at a Front Panel Step-Card, and, since card making is one of my weaknesses, it just didn’t seem to go as planned.  Even though the end-result turned out beautifully, the path to discovery was not so glamorous.

As you do in each experiment, I researched the subject. After browsing Pinterest for hours, saving snippets of summer meals, scrapbook sketches, farmhouse decor, …oh, and a thousand ways to make a step-card, I finally settled on a pattern by Colleen Vaux. I thought “I can do this!” (I am sure Tesla and Einstein said the same thing when they formed their hypothesis.) Now the experimenting begins.

Observations:
1. If you choose to change a horizontal step-card to a vertical step-card, take the time to research a new pattern. You aren’t Einstein and math hurts the ever-aging brain cells.
2. When altering one’s pattern, make sure it will fit into the envelope you intend to send it in. Measure twice, cut forty times. (Procedure not working – time to go back to original horizontal pattern.)
3. Do not cut off the side panels. You need those. (Gathering more materials.)
4. When all else fails, turn to your Cricut®. (Make sure you have a decent cutting mat to avoid another piece of cardstock being ruined.)
5. If you are going to go to all this trouble to create a card, you should take some time to enter the Three Amigos and  heARTful stamping challenge.

My experimenting led to a mess of excess, cut-up, cardstock that will go into my scrap pile. I did finally turn to my Cricut® to create this cut file that I can use in the future and avoid additional failed experiments. I proceeded to use products from our New Seasonal Expressions 2 , including the Fresh Air Paper Packet and A Bushel & a Peck stamp set, to decorated the card. All of the supplies I used can be found on my website.

I hope you take the time to try to create a step-card this week using the Free Cricut Design Space™ File I created for you. Now, time to continue on riding the bicycle of life, because in order to keep my balance I must keep moving. I can’t wait to see what you create!

Valentine Chocolate Box

This week’s Color My Heart Dare is a Tic-Tac-Toe Challenge.  We had to use and identify the three colors in a row from the board of our choice.  I chose to make this adorable little box for Valentine’s Day that holds three Ghirardelli® chocolate squares using Glacier, White Daisy, and Heather.  Along with joining the Color My Heart Dare Challenge this week, I am venturing out and joining the Heartful Stamping and Three Amigos challenges as well.  As always, I have listed the supplies used on this project at the very bottom of this post.

I needed to create more than one of these boxes so I chose to re-create a pattern I found online in Cricut® Design Space.  I have written quite a few posts and taught classes on how to create a box shape in Design Space using an online score board pattern.  This is what my image looked like once I created it in Design Space.

As you can see, I inserted a simple rectangle shape, then attached score lines and cut lines where the directions indicated.  You can find a simple tutorial in Split-Coast Stampers to create the box using a score board if you would like.

I can’t always participate in challenges weekly, but enjoy how much they stretch me each time I do.  I hope that you join me in these weekly challenges or take the time to try to re-create one of these boxes.  I can’t wait to see what you create!
