An Easter Memories Layout

Using Craft with Heart

Last month, I posted a tutorial and video showing you how versatile our Craft with Heart scrapbook kits can be. With each monthly package, I receive two full size themed scrapbook layouts, and, this month’s Celebrate Today layout, has a party theme.  I chose to change the design just a little bit and created a video tutorial showing you how I did just that. You will find the link at the very bottom of the page.

Simply put, this layout was perfect for my Easter photos. That is one of the reasons I enjoy the Craft with Heart kits so much – they are versatile.  You do not have to create them as shown on the page and you don’t have to use everything in the kit.

Let’s take a look at what the original layout looks like on the instruction sheet.

Can you spot the differences?  Not only did I turn this into an Easter Layout, I also added a few little embellishments from our Celebrate Today collection that were not in the kit. Reason number two for loving these kits – they match our current paper collections.

I can pull from my leftover scraps and add to the kit knowing it is going to match perfectly.  On my layout, I used some leftover Celebrate Today Vellum Die Cuts, Stickers, and PML Cards embellish my pages.

I was able to add more photos using a Pocket Plus Page Protector.  So many of us have a stack of holiday photos, and, often, we create additional pages for those memories. On this layout, I decided to take advantage of those partial page protectors and add the photos to my layout – no additional pages needed

Are you ready to see how I made this adorable Easter Memories Layout?  This video walks you through the creation process as I “redesigned” this Craft with Heart layout to fit my photos and memories. I also show you how to assemble the layout and how to use the Pocket Plus Memory Protectors. New Paper Suites
With a new catalog comes an entirely new line of paper suites. For this layout, I chose to use patterns and images from our Sweet Girl paper packet. Even though this paper packet appears to be primarily for those who love pink, I was able to pull patterns using Fern, Sapphire, and Heather to create my layout. I love this color combination.

Stitched Flower Thin Cuts
If you have not had a chance to see our new Stitched Flower Thin Cuts in the new idea book, you need to stop and visit page 122. This set of metal dies comes with multiple stitched flower dies, leaves, and centers which can be layered in a variety of ways. On my layout, I cut the flowers from both cardstock and patterned paper to create unique spring accents for my Easter layout.

New Embellishments
As you know, I always add multiple layers and textures to my projects, so you can only image my excitement when I saw our Sapphire Crochet Thread. I like that I can use it to embellish photos, add small bows, and use it for stitching. I am also ELATED by all the new colors and shapes in our Crafty Sequins. This package of sequins had the perfect shade of blue to enhance my layout.

Well, I was able to narrow it down to only four products. That was hard to do, but I hope it gave you just a taste of what is available in the new Seasonal Expressions 2 catalog.

Now ‘Hop” on over to Brenda Lapp’s blog to see her work! Be sure to visit all the Consultants at their blogs to get some great crafting tips and other fun ideas. Remember, you can receive a FREE Seasonal Expressions 2 catalog with your first online order. Contact your CTMH Consultant, or visit my website to order yourself some of these amazing new products.

I can’t wait to see what you create!

Tuesday Tutorial: Using Templates in Design Space™

If you haven’t discovered the “Template” feature in Cricut Design Space™, you are missing out on using a wonderfully designed, underused feature in the program. The Templates feature helps you visualize your project and, as I will show you, is especially helpful when designing 12″ x 12″ layouts with your Cricut Explore™ or Maker™ machine.

Where do I find Templates?

The Templates tool is in the Design Panel and allows you to choose the “Template” you are designing on. As you scroll through the different templates, you can select a category to filter the templates or use the search field to search for a specific type of template.

How do I customize my Template?

Once your template has appeared on your Canvas, the Template Edit bar will appear and allow you to choose the type, size, and a version of the template that resembles your project. As you can see here, I choose a T-Shirt and I can customize the size, color, and type of the shirt I am designing.

Quick Tip: Templates are for reference only and will not be saved with the project. It is best to create a text box containing information about the template you used, the type, size, and color, then save it with your project so that you can add the template the next time you work with that project.

How do I create a layout using the Template feature?

This is a fun part of the tutorial. Often when I am creating a layout in Design Space™, I know that I will not be cutting out the 12″ background pages, but I need them for reference. I could go in an add some 12″ squares then hide or delete before cutting, but I am all about working smarter, not harder.  Instead, I go to the Basic Canvas template choose “Custom”, and adjust my size and color to match my background pages. Here I have chosen a single 12″ page, but you can chose to make your template a 12″ x 24″ template for a two page layout.

Once I have the template in place, I can design my layout. On this layout, I used quite a few images from our Flower Market collection. By having a Template to work with, I don’t have to “guess” on the size of my images.

I hope you take the time this week to give the Templates feature a try. Not only can you use it for layouts, but it is a great feature to use when designing other projects in Design Space.™ I will be posting a short video in my Facebook group this week that will show you how I created this layout using the Template feature and images from our Flower Market collection. I hope you take the time to view it and see how helpful this feature is.

I can’t wait to see what you create!

Design Space™ is a program that is used with the Cricut Explore™ and Cricut Maker™ machines. If you have been considering upgrading your machine, I suggest you check out this week’s machine sales to see all the possible colors, bundles, and savings available to you.
