For this Blog Hop, I was able to do three things I love: Join a blog hop full of talented ladies, create some cards for my wonderful downline, and join in a Color My Heart Dare challenge.  I just love the Sapphire, Smoothie, and Heather combination in our Beautiful Friendship collection. I have been seeing this color combination everywhere lately.  How awesome is it that Close to My Heart is “in the know” when it comes to seasonal color combinations?!

And those tea cups….oh, my gosh!  I have fallen in love with the Beautiful Friendship Cardmaking set.  I just love those little flowers that you can add to the Cup and Teapot, not to mention that adorable little Teabag.

Here are a few techniques I used on this card:

  • The Sapphire background was created using one of the PML cards from the Beautiful Friendship Paper Packet.  I always end of with a few of these leftover and they make great backgrounds for cards.
  • The “Create” sentiment is from another one of my favorite stamp sets – We Are Makers.  I just love all these crafty sentiments that can be used on cards, scrapbook pages, or in a frame with Cricut® flowers.
  • The “Steam” was stamped with Heather Ink using the second-generation stamping technique. This prevented it from competing with the sentiment, yet still gave another layer of depth to the card.
  • The “Teacup” was stamped in Black Ink, then I added the Flower design with Smoothie ink.  I wanted to add a little blue, but I was too lazy to color the flowers, so I added some dots with a ShinHan™ Twin Touch™ Marine Blue Marker.
  • Both the Teabag and the Teacup were cut-out using our matching Thin Cuts. You can purchase the Beautiful Friendship Cardmaking stamp set as a bundle with these Thin Cuts dies.
  • For another layer of texture, I stitched the “Banners” along the right side of the card using a Ruler and Piercing & Embossing Tool.

Just in case you wanted to re-create this card, I have included a complete list of the supplies I used at the very bottom of this post. You can continue through the blog hop and see more ideas from almost twenty other Close To My Heart Consultants sharing their creations using our products from the Seasonal Expressions 2 catalog on their blogs.

My Weird Scrapbooking Life

In honor of National Scrapbooking Month, I have decided to try to post more scrapbook pages.  As I created this layout, I realized that I have some really weird scrapbook habits. So, in honor of a month dedicated to scrapbooking, I have decided to share my top ten habits of “weirdness” with you.  (Maybe you can ease my mind into believing that some of these habits aren’t so weird.)

SBWeirdnessLayout

WEIRD HABIT NUMBER ONE
I love scouring the internet for inspiration and challenges.  This week’s online search led me to two challenges.  I adore the Raspberry, Mink and Juniper combination for this week’s Color My Heart Dare, and I really wanted to challenge myself to use Vellum as instructed in the Heart2Heart Challenge(These challenges are so fun – this time I was blessed with the Diamond Award from Color My Heart Dare and the May Darling Award from Heart2Heart.)

WEIRD HABIT NUMBER TWO
I don’t glue everything down all at once.  In fact, I am known to have a huge pile of randomness that I have thrown onto the page, rearrange, THEN when I am finally satisfied – I snap a photo of it on my phone for reference. By taking a photo, I have something to refer to when my life calls me elsewhere or when my ever aging brain forgets where I placed that stamped rose.

WEIRD HABIT NUMBER THREE
I change my mind a lot.  Originally, I had placed the stamped vellum raspberry rose overlay on top of raspberry cardstock, but after looking at the fundamentals paper, I decided to go with white cardstock instead. Which leads me to weird habit four…

WEIRD HABIT NUMBER FOUR
I look at all the items I have chosen for additional inspiration.  The background paper has raspberry roses on white – I matched those with a heat embossed velum raspberry rose on top of white cardstock.  The Thin Cut Hearts have stitching which I matched by adding stitching to the page.

WEIRD HABIT NUMBER FIVE
I eat chocolate while scrapbooking and sometimes have to use a white pen to cover up the random chocolate stain on a layout.  My scrapbook desk holds two tins  – one with chocolate and one with dog treats. I don’t dare mix them up. 🙂

WEIRD HABIT NUMBER SIX
I save most of my scraps and Cricut® mistakes.  On this layout, the vellum roses were cut from scraps, the cardstock roses were cut from scraps, the leaves were stamped on scraps, and the title was a mistake made and used.  I even cut my little hearts from the raspberry roses I had intended on using.

WEIRD HABIT NUMBER SEVEN
I use a lot of foam tape. I need to by this stuff in 100 foot rolls.  I love the dimension that using both Thin 3D Foam Tape and 3D Foam Tape as well as our Foam Dots gives to a project.

WEIRD HABIT NUMBER EIGHT
I don’t post many layouts with photos.  In all honesty, I like to keep my family life private and protected.  Although, I do seem to have (and post) more pictures of my dog than my kids and her little attitude would prevent most people from taking her.

WEIRD HABIT NUMBER NINE
I like to use a variety of shapes, colors, and textures on my projects.  I have been learning quite a bit lately about color application and how to “match” tones and shades.  I love mixing lines with floral and scripts. I am careful to make sure that each has something to add to the layout and doesn’t take away from the photos.  I am also a big fan of texture.  It adds dimension and sophistication to a project, but a little can go a long way.

WEIRD HABIT NUMBER TEN
I make A TON of mistakes.  That white pen thing with the chocolate is just the tip of the iceberg. I have been known to leave a coffee ring on a project then cover it with a flower or clean a stamp and mist the ink all over the page – great opportunity to try my hand at splatter painting. I have been know to pull a piece of paper up only to tear it then just call it “added texture”.

So, maybe some of these aren’t so weird, but, to me and my little brain monsters, they seen awful strange some days.  I do hope that you take a little bit of time during National Scrapbooking Month to express your “weirdness” and breathe in the paper goodness of crafting.  Make sure to take the time to visit my website and see all that Close to My Heart is offering to celebrate a month dedicated to scrapbooking.  I can’t wait to see what you create!

Mother’s Day Bouquet Card

April Showers bring May flowers … and planning days for May celebrations.  On days full of snow and rain, I am able to spend time in my craft room planning for the upcoming holidays without feeling guilty that I should be working on my never-ending yard.  This week, I attempted to create a Mother’s Day card using the colors for this week’s Color My Heart Dare – Lagoon, Mink, Peacock and Silver – which, to me, seemed like very non-traditional Mother’s Day colors. I choose to make a layered Flower Bouquet using various stamped images and, I must say, it turned out better than I had hoped.  You can find the list of supplies I used on this card at the very bottom of this post.

MothersDayCDCard

Paper Needed: 4¼” x 5½” White Card Base, 4″ x 4″ Dotted Velum (Postcard Perfect),
2½” x 4″ Mink Cardstock, White Daisy Cardstock scraps

Here are some of the techniques I used to create this card:

  • I used the second-generation stamping technique on the large flowers so that the Lagoon and Mink Inks appeared lighter. After stamping, I used a Watercolor Pencil to add shading to the flowers, then brushed it with a Clear Shimmer Brush.
  • The images were all cut out by hand and layered onto the card using Thin Foam Dots and 3D Foam Tape.  By using two different types of adhesive, I was able to get a multi-layered look on the card.
  • I used White Embossing Powder on the sentiment and Silver Embossing Powder for some of the leaves.

Don’t forget that the Color Your Life and the Chelsea Gardens Scrapbooking stamp sets are only available through April 30th.  I hope you take the time to try to create a few Mother’s Day cards this year and, while you are at it, join in on the weekly Color My Heart Dare challenges.  I can’t wait to see what you create!
