Creative Design Team Video Blog Hop

Welcome to our FIRST Creative Design Team Video Collaborators Hop! 81671089_10158243384996122_8346218923351343104_nI have the special privilege of joining an amazingly talented group of ladies who will be sharing their crafting videos with you.  This month, we are showcasing a few of our Close to My Heart holiday products that are being used in creative new ways.  If you get lost along the way, you can view the complete list of participants here on my blog – Creative Design Team Hop.

It is obviously Monday in cold Colorado and many of you had the pleasure of receiving a blank blog post in your email today. With the new year, I made a few changes to my blog and one of those changes was to plan ahead and schedule posts so that I would stay on top of things.  Great in theory. 🙄 In order to execute that plan, I need to check my list occasionally.  So… I am asking you to please forgive this scatter-brained creative and enjoy today’s creation.

This month, our Creative Design Team was challenged with the task to use holiday products in a new way.  We all have some leftovers in our scrap-bin (or maybe some pieces you have never cut into) and, with the holidays now over, we want to find ways to use them.  Our Design Team has put together some great videos showing you how to do just that.  On my Joy of Farm Life layout, I have used a plethora of Close to My Heart holiday products and listed each one of them at the very bottom of this post.

In my video, I go into much more detail, but you can see a few of the items I used in my photos above.  The title was created using some Cedar & Pine Stickers & Tags, and a border sticker from the Holly Jolly Collection.  Even though this scrapbook page has nothing to do with Christmas, I was able to use up quite a few of my paper scraps and leftover stickers to create a memorable layout of my son.

If you would like to see the full process video and “hop” though to see all the creations made by our Creative Design Team, you can click on the link below.

I want to thank you for stopping by today, and, again, ask your forgiveness for the blank Monday posting.  All of the items I have used on my project are available, while supplies last, on my website.  I hope that this project has inspired you to use up those leftover holiday products and try something new.

Let’s Talk About Using ATTACH in Cricut® Design Space

For those of you who received a Cricut® for Christmas, or have one collecting dust from last Christmas, the Attach feature in Design Space can be a little confusing. If you are not quite sure where or what it is, let me give you a little help as I walk you through how to use Attach while you learn to create the sweet, simple three dimensional snowflake from my Beautiful Blue Snowflake card.

Let’s first start with What is ATTACH?

When you are first starting out in Design Space, ATTACH can seem like an unneeded feature and is often ignored, but there is a reason I teach people how to use it in my Cricut® Classes.  Other than being a cute little paper clip on your screen, the ATTACH feature has two functions.

    • Attach holds your cuts (images) in the exact position you have placed them on the design screen (canvas) onto the cutting mat.
    • Attach fastens your Cut, Score, & Write lines onto the image where you want the machine to cut, score, or write.

Let me show you Where to Find ATTACH?

You can find the ATTACH feature in two places in the Design Space web/desktop application.  The first is at the bottom of the Design Space Layers Panel.  After you have selected the items you wish to Attach you just need to click the little “paperclip”.  For those who prefer shortcuts in a Context Menu, you can select the images then right-click the mouse and choose Attach.  If you are using an iOS or Android device, you can locate Attach under Actions.

Let me show you How to Use ATTACH?

The Attach feature is something I teach in quite a few of my classes in a multitude of ways, so today, I am just going to show you how I used this feature to create the three-dimensional snowflake for my Beautiful Blue Snowflake card.  Since most of you are visual learners, I have created a short process video for you to watch as you learn more about how to used the Attach feature in Design Space.

I hope that you enjoyed today’s tutorial and were able to learn a little more about the Attach feature in Design Space.  In each of my local and online classes, you will learn more about this and other features while you create a project.   I hope that you will join me as we continue to learn and create with our Cricut® machines.

Paper Layering Technique Blog Hop

Welcome to the Paper Layering Technique Blog Hop where we will be showing you a variety of paper layering techniques that highlight a few of our Close to My Heart products!72479502_10156828828917934_6898018155151491072_o.jpg  If you have come here from Maz Wood’s blog, you are on the right path! When you are finished reading, you can click on the link at the end to move to the next blog. This blog hop is simple, fun, and full of ideas.  If you get lost along the way, you’ll find the complete list of participating consultants on Melissa’s Blog.

To me, paper layering means using a variety of products, from various collections, that all complement each other and use them on a single paper crafting project. This is my FAVORITE way to create.  I enjoy being able to just grab from my stash when construct a layout, like this Snow Cute page.MissCarriesCreations-SnowCuteLayoutSM.jpg

To often, we grab a background paper, like the one from Holly Jolly here, and think that we need to only using Holly Jolly products, without noticing that the Mix-Ins and Cedar & Pine have embellishments that match perfectly. When I am designing my layouts, I don’t even pay attention to the product line, I simply snag & grab everything that coordinates  with my photo and create.

If you look at the title of my layout, you will see that I used a combination of Complete Creativity Cricut™ cuts  and stickers from the Cedar & Pine Collection, yet the paper is from the Holly Jolly collection. These both match my photos and coordinate with each other.

If you take a hard look at the other side of the layout, you will notice Cricut™ cuts from Flower Market, Your Are Here, & Complete Creativity along with stickers from the Holly Jolly collection.  Every piece I chose for this layout complements each other and the photos I am trying to highlight.  If you like, you can watch this short process video, and watch how I put together this Snow Cute page.

Now ‘Hop” on over to Darlys Recker’s blog to see her work! Be sure to visit all the Consultants at their blogs to get some great crafting tips and other fun ideas.  I hope today’s post has encouraged you to start looking at your products in a whole new way.

I can’t wait to see what you create!
