Creating a Farm House Scrapbook Layout with Craft with Heart

Close to My Heart has an amazing Scrapbook Subscription program called Craft with Heart, and, this week, I decided that it was time to starting showing you how I use these layout kits.  Before I share the process video of my First Farm House layout, I want to explain a little bit more about these monthly kits that are mailed to you each month.

Each kit comes to you with everything you need to create two 2-page 12″ x 12″ scrapbook layouts including the memory protectors.  It is ready to assemble, easy to make, and only requires adhesive and a journalling pen. The layout I am sharing with you arrived last fall, and, as you will see, I was able to use the Craft with Heart kit to create a memorable page of our First Farm House.

Here is the fun part.  This layout was not originally designed to look like this. If you look at the photos below, you will see that I used all of the elements in the kit, but in a way that fit my photos best. Since the kits each month are designed to match our current paper packets, I was able to add more elements to my page using some of my Hawthorn paper scraps.

I just love how each of the elements in the kit – stickers and die cuts – enhanced the design of my layout.  By simply moving a few of them to another part of the page, I was able to create my own individual piece of art for my memories.

There are so many other little things that I did to make this page my own personal creation that I want to share with you, so I have created a process video for you to view and enjoy.  In this video you will be able to see how I used the original design to help me create this layout and you will also learn how I chose to add my own personal touch to the pages.

I hope that you were inspired by today’s creation and are excited to try something new.  If you would like to learn more about having Craft with Heart scrapbook kits delivered to your door, simply visit the Subsciption page on my website and scroll down to the Craft with Heart scrapbook kits to see all of the amazing options available.

A Few Thanksgiving Place Cards for Color My Heart Color Dare

I needed to take a little break from Christmas. I know that many of you are trying to plan ahead and looking for inspiration, but, honestly, I can only handle so much holly jolly this early in the year.  You can only image my delight when I discovered that week’s Color Dare Challenge was Thanksgiving related.

71303613_10214887506963197_848483034276560896_n.jpgOur kids are now grown and bringing home some special significant others, making Thanksgiving a little different than it has been in years past. Since I have the pleasure of hosting, this challenge gave me the perfect excuse to create a few place cards for the holiday table.misscarriescreations-thanksgivingleafplacecards2-1.jpg

I don’t even know if place cards are a “thing” anymore.  Growing up, my children could have cared less about how the table was decorated and were more concerned that there was enough turkey for leftovers during the break. Either way, these little 4″ x 3″ tent cards are new “thing” I am adding to my table.

Each one of my cards was created from Almond cardstock with Hawthorn paper accents. The leaves were stamped using a variety of inks then placed atop a stitched circle cut from Espresso paper.

Once the cards were complete, I added each name using the Typewriter stamp set which, ideally, matches my decor for the season. misscarriescreations-thanksgivingleafplacecards.jpg

These Thanksgiving Place Cards are simple to create and fun to make. I have created a simple tutorial showing you how to make each of these place cards using the Rock-n-Roll stamping technique.

I hope that you have been inspired and will join us for this week’s Color My Heart Color Dare challenge. Make sure to stop by and see all of the challenges available and enter your creations for a chance to win the monthly prize.

I can’t wait to see what you create!

These Are a Few of My Favorite Things

In case you may have forgotten, the Fall Seasonal Expressions catalog products are retiring this week.  With the catalogs only lasting two months, you don’t much time to allow things to sit in your cart before they are no longer available. Today, I thought I would share with you a few of my favorites from this catalog that you might want to snag before they disappear.

Hawthorn Paper, Shapes, and Complements

Close to My Heart did not disappoint this season. The Hawthorn collection had to be one of my preferred products to create with. Full of corrugated patterns, rustic fall designs, and vintage images – this collection is full of possibilities.   Can you believe that the scrapbook kit is ONLY $32.95I got myself two because I fell for the pre-printed pages and die cuts. I may not create them as shown, but I have a bunch of layouts planned.

Every Little Thing Vellum Die Cuts

The website image does not do this set justice. If you search my blog, you will find that I used these vellum die cuts on just about any project I could. Left as is, they create a simple statement. Add a bit of color, and your project pops. These 10″ sheets of vellum can be shaded with markers, inks, and watercolor pencils.

Fall Stamp Sets with Matching Thin Cuts

We had quite a few stamp sets that came with matching Thin Cut dies, and, this season, I could not get enough of the Perk-Up, Autumn Blessings, and Sunflower Sympathy sets.  I am a sucker for anything that involves coffee, which meant that many fall cards included one of those cute cups or coffee rings. ☕

Mix-In Paper Packet

MissCarriesCreations-FallMixinFor those of us who ADORE paper, the seasonal Mix-Ins are a great way to add to the stash. I truly enjoyed the charcoal plaid, roughed up designs, and beautiful fall patterns. These papers are intended to match many of our collections, allowing you to easily add them to any project without overwhelming the design.

Layered Leaves Thin Cuts Dies

I know, I know…I think I have mentioned these so many times, but they ARE MY MOST USED ITEM. I am in the process of creating a new video showing how I used the Layered Leaves Thin Cuts on TWO Christmas projects. Make sure you are subscribed to YouTube Channel so that you are notified when they are uploaded.

Many of the items may have sold out before this posted. I am hoping that you were able to get yourself a few of “my favorite things” before they were gone. If you didn’t, make sure that you grab some of the holiday items soon. Like I said, with only two months to purchase, you have to snag them quick.

I can’t wait to see what you create!
