Another Reimagined Project: A Magical Beauty Bag

Over the past month, I have been playing with the Magical Unicorn key in the Everyday Moments collection to create two layouts – A Magical Birthday and A Magical Christmas.  Each one of these included a simple video tutorial for you to follow. Today, I have another project for you using that Magical Unicorn Key and HTV Iron-On Vinyl with another easy-to-follow tutorial showing you how to create a Magical Beauty Bag.

My video tutorial will walk you through the design process in Cricut Design Space showing you how to create this project using the templates and attach features and show you how to apply HTV to your projects using an EasyPress Mini.  Before we go to the video, I want to tell you more about this project and let you know that a supply list can be found at the very bottom of this post.

All of the images for this Magical Beauty Bag were taken from the Everyday Moments Cricut collection.  I took apart two of the image design (keys) and used the images to create the front of this bag.

This make-up bag was a free give-away from Ulta, but I am sure you probably have one in your stash that needs decorating.  This design was cut from regular Heat Transfer Vinyl, Everyday Iron-On, and Glitter Heat Transfer Vinyl.  In my video I show you how to cut each one of these using your Cricut Machine.

Here are a few Tips & Tricks for using Heat Transfer Vinyl

  1. Mirror your design in Design Space before cutting.
  2. Place the vinyl shiny-side down on a standard grip mat.
  3. Choose “Custom Materials” on the Air2 Dial & select the material.
  4. Make sure your blade doesn’t have any nicks and it sharp before cutting.
  5. Use weeding tools to remove the excess vinyl from the backing sheet.
  6. Refer to the Cricut Heat Guide for temperature and application.

My video tutorial explains each one of these tips in a little more detail.  On this design I chose to add a little glitter HTV.  If you chose to use a glitter iron-on, you will need to make sure that the glitter pieces are your top layers.  You cannot layer other iron-on designs onto glitter easily, so it’s best to make sure that the glitter vinyl is always your final layer.

After all the vinyl had been attached to the front of the bag, I decided to add a little more bling with a handmade tassel and flower charm.  The tassel contains a few bits of our Gold Embellishing thread to match the gold on the design and bag.  I just love that little bit of bling

This project was so simple to make and perfect for a summer project with friends or to make and give away as a gift.

Magical Christmas Layout: The Unicorn Reimagined

The sun is shining, the bees are out, the flowers are blooming… and I am working on Christmas pages.  When Close to My Heart asked me to “reimagine” the Magical Unicorn layout in the Everyday Moments collection, the first thing that came mind was a Deer and, with all the bright colors in the Blue Skies collection, I knew that I needed to create a Christmas layout.

Please take a few minutes to stop by my channel, subscribe, and hit the thumbs up if you enjoyed the tutorial.

If you read my previous posts, you know that I was assigned the Magical Unicorn key from the Everyday Moments collection and was asked to create the original design (seen here on my blog) AND a reimagined design.  In true Miss. Carrie fashion, I broke the rules.  I chose to use the Blue Skies collection, which is intended for summer, with the Magical Unicorn, which is not at all Christmasy, and created a holiday layout.

Are you able to pick-out which images I used from the original design?  In my video tutorial, I walk you through the creative process in Design Space so that you are able to see how I turned the unicorn into a deer.  There aren’t too many steps, and it’s a great tutorial for those who are learning to use their Cricut.

As you can see here, the ears, flowers, title and stars are all from the original Magical Unicorn key.  I love how those flowers turned out! The Blue Skies cardstock I used has a raised pattern design which make those flowers just pop off the page.

I paired the cardstock with vellum to soften the design some.  If you choose to use Vellum with these flower cuts, you are going to want to choose “Intricate Cardstock Design” in Design Space.  The vellum setting doesn’t cut those straw flowers as cleanly.

Along with the Blue Skies cardstock, I also used the pattern paper and stickers.  All of these are intended for summer designs, but I felt like they were the perfect backdrop for my Christmas photos.

One of the pattern papers I used had a sentiment design that didn’t quite match with the holiday theme, so I chose a sticker from the Blue Skies collection to cover it. Using the “Life is Sweet” sticker was a great way to stick to my holiday theme and add a little embellishment to the layout.

There are still a few details, like journaling, that I need to add to the layout.  I am in the process of creating an extended story with these holiday photos, so I am waiting to finish the story writing process.  Once I have finished, I will show you the completed design and share it with you.

A Magical Birthday Layout using Everyday Moments Unicorn Key

I was honored, once again, to be asked by Close to My Heart to create design using the Everyday Moments collection.  This time, I was asked to use the Magical Unicorn key, and, to be honest, I was terrified.  Rarely do you see unicorns in our home full of blue, but I was determined to use this design.  In a box of undocumented photos, I found these, of my daughter’s princess party, and decided to make a layout that reflected her personality at that age.

Not only did I create an adorable layout using that Everyday Moments Unicorn key, I also created a list of supplies used and a process video for you to follow to create a layout of your own. Before we take a look at the video, let me show you a few details on this layout.

This unicorn is fit for a young princess – all full of flowers and sparkles.  To create all the glitter and shine, I used our Holographic papers on the flowers and top border, White Glitter paper for the horn, and Gold Foil paper to create the crown.

I did make a few changes to the original flowers in the design. Mine are a little larger and have a few more layers to add to the whimsy of this layout.  The title was layered on top of the Gold Foil crown and cut from Black & Raspberry cardstock.  I love how “Disney-ish” this looks.

The Magical Unicorn design is intended to be an 8½” x 11″ page.  I am one who scrapbooks 12″ layouts, so I do show you in the video how easy it is to turn this layout into a 12″ x 12″ page.

Close to My Heart requested that I create both the original design, as shown in the Everyday Moments collection, and a re-imagined design.  What else can someone make with a Unicorn?  Well, you will find out soon enough.  Make sure that you follow me here, on my blog, or on Facebook or Instagram so that you will get a chance to see my re-imagined Magical Unicorn page.

I hope you were inspired to take another look at the Magical Unicorn key in the Everyday Moments Cricut collection.  This collection is not available for purchase through Access or Cricut, it is only available through my affiliate link.  If you wish to purchase this collection to create your own Magical Birthday layout, you can find the link in the supply list below.
