For the Color My Heart Color Dare Challenge
This week, we are encouraging you to bring out the rulers, notebooks, and pencils as we go back to school for the Color My Heart Challenge. You are to use this photo as inspiration to create a back to school masterpiece. Don’t forget to link-up your project before September 13th.
Have you ever had one of those weeks where nothing goes quite right? Here is what happened. I was inspired by a Pinterest find and excitedly created my entire project around the “back to school” theme, completely forgetting to check the color palette. (ugg) I went back to the drawing board and finished creating this little Back to School Treat Bag♥. It is the perfect little gift to give anyone who deals with your kids everyday.
I didn’t mean for that to sound negative, but, those teachers, paras, aides, cooks, secretaries, nurses, and, occasionally, the principal, get the pleasure of seeing your little one’s “smiling” face each and every week day for the next nine months. THEY DESERVE A LITTLE GIFT just like this♥ filled with chocolate and a coffee gift card.
The box was created in Design Space™, then cut from Emerald cardstock with my Cricut™. After assembling the box, I decorated it with some Gingham paper, a simple sentiment from our August stamp of the month, and an adorable little handmade Pinwheel. To keep with the color palette, I used a Red Alcohol Marker to recolor the Pink Heart and Sequins.
Isn’t this the sweetest?♥ Please don’t take offense to anything I may have said about children. I have been on both sides of the fence – in the school system and as a mom with seven little ducks wailing behind her. Those who are willing to spend every week with your children deserve a little “pick-me-up” after having who knows what sneezed on them. By taking a few minutes to create something special, you just made their day.

PINK. You either love it or you avoid it. Pair it with Black, White, and Grey and you have a classical look that most of us adore. What is your opinion of pink? For those who prefer to use this color sparingly, I urge you to step outside your comfort zone and join us at the Heart2Heart Challenge. This week, we are asking you to create a project using Pink, Grey, Black, and White.
I, like many of you, do not use Pink very often. When you look through my collection of paper, you will not find many pink shades, but, since I have asked you to “step outside your comfort zone”, I am going to do the same.♥ I started by digging through the patterns in our Mix In paper packet, and found a few to use on my Best Day Ever card.
I started with our White Card Base, and adhered a few layers of Mix In papers onto it using Thin Foam Tape. The papers are sized a 3″x 5¼” and 1″ x 5¼” with a ¼” piece of Black Glitter paper in-between.
I created a three-dimensional flower cut from Ballerina cardstock with the Stitched Flowers Thin Cuts. After assembling the flower, I place a Button Die Cut in the center, that had been threaded with White Twine.
If you would like a tutorial of how to create a three-dimensional flower using
these Thin Cuts, you can view it HERE.♥
The sentiment was created using a 1″ x 1½” piece of White Daisy cardstock that was stamped with a saying from the August Stamp of the month. I layered it atop a piece of Black Glitter paper, and attached it to the card with Silver Embellishing Thread.
A few Black Dots and Silver Gems, and the card was complete. So what do you think?♥ I hope that it has inspired you to join us for this month’s challenge at Heart2Heart. You have until August 31st to link up your creation to this challenge. While you are there, make sure to check out the other monthly challenges and be inspired by each of the amazing creations.

What to choose. What to choose. So many fun sparkly, shiny products to pick from. With all of the choices sitting in front of me, I decided to just feature a few of my favorites that I used on my most recent “Creative Genes” page.
After stamping the background with our Timeless Treasures stamp set, I used a Black Shimmer Brush to splatter the corners of the background. This is one of my favorite ways to used the Black Shimmer Brush. (View the Process Video HERE)
Who doesn’t love glitter paper? After creating the title in Design Space™, I chose to cut out the image using Black Glitter paper. Doesn’t it just pop off the page?
♥GOLD CLIPS & TWINE
Now they many not sparkle, but they sure are shiny. Gold was the perfect accent to this page. After adding some Craft-On images, I tied some Gold & White Twine around a Gold Arrow Clip and attached it to the photo.
