Fall Decorating with Monograms

When the new Holiday Expressions catalog first came out, I was extremely happy to see that we now carry a variety of Chipboard Monograms. Monograms are one of the most popular home decor items on Pinterest and, today, I am going to give you a few tips for creating this beautiful Fall Monogram for your home. You can find the compete list of supplies I used on my project at the very bottom of this post.

To create this “Thankful” Fall Monogram, I began by adhering the Woodgrain paper to my Chipboard “T” using a tape runner. If you choose to use liquid adhesive, make sure to apply full coverage to the chipboard or you will be able to see the lines of glue through the paper.  You can choose from any of the Grateful Heart papers for your background. I picked this color combination to match the decor in my craftroom.

Once I had chosen my background pattern, I opened up Cricut Design Space™ and created the Sunflower, Leaves, and “Thankful” using images from of our Cricut Collections.  I love the added texture and design that the paper patterns give to my flower. If you would like to recreate this Sunflower, you can follow the Chocolate Sunflower tutorial I created last November.

After cutting out and assembling my images, I decided that I needed to add a few of the Complements to my design.  I really like the look of those Copper Veined Leaves and the Copper Butterfly, so I chose to add them along with the Pomegranate Heart.

I tied the whole design together by heat embossing the Scrolling with Copper Tinsel Embossing Powder and adding a few Cork Shapes. How easy is that?

There are so many wonderful things you can create with these Chipboard Monograms! (I am using a few for Christmas gifts that I will be sharing with you later.)  This Fall Monogram can stand alone on it’s own or be added to a frame, like I did, or even to the center of a fall wreath.  Our Monogram Chipboard Letters are available for a limited time, while supplies last, so make sure you grab a few for your own crafting creations.

I can’t wait to see what you create!

Tuesday Tutorial – Flower Market Flower

Chocolate Sunflower

Did you  know that you can manipulate some of the images on our Flower Market Cricut® Cartridge to create other flowers?  Throughout the month, I have been posting simple tutorials to create the three-dimensional flowers on our Flower Market Cricut® Cartridge. This week, I am going to show you how create a Chocolate Sunflower using images on cartridge.   As always, I have listed the supplies used on this project at the bottom of this post.

ChocolateSunflower

  1. In Cricut® Design Space, insert the Chrysanthemum – #MFADEB0 image into your canvas. Delete all the images except for the largest flower.  Resize the flower to 6″.
  2. Insert a CIRCLE shape and size the image to 3″. SELECT ALL images and ALIGN CENTER.  (Sunflowers have very large centers.)

  3. SELECT ALL and choose WELD, then DUPLICATE the image so that you have three flower layers.

  4. Insert the Holly Wreath with Bow – #MD7AF54 image into your canvas, then DELETE the bow.  Resize the image to 3.5″wide.
  5. Duplicate the image and resize ¼” smaller to 3.25″ w. Duplicate three more times and resize the images to 3.0″w, 2.75″w, and 2.5″w. (You can choose to keep decreasing in size if you wish and skip step six.)
  6. Insert a CIRCLE shape and resize to 3″ for the center of the flower. This is what my Canvas looked like before I began cutting.

NOTE: The leaves were created from Leaf – #MD43189 and cut at 3″w.
  7. To assemble the flower, begin by shaping the petals using your finger, flower shaping tools, or a bone folder. If desired, ink the centers of the petals with Nutmeg Ink, then layer so that each one is slightly off-set from the next. Use 3D Foam Tape between each layer for added dimension.

  8. Adhere the 3″ circle into the center of the flower.
  9. Fold each of the Holly Wreaths in half to create the “Seeds”, then adhere them inside the from the outside towards the center, decreasing in size.  Make sure each the the “Seeds” stay upright when gluing down the next layer.
  10. To create the leaves, cut a triangle shaped slit on the lower part of the leaf, then fold, overlapping the sides of the cut slightly, and glue into place.

  11. If desired, paint the center of the flower using a Gold Shimmer Brush.

This Sunflower be created with any shade from our beautiful cardstock color palette or cut from Watercolor Paper to create an washed color effect with our Watercolor paints.  Create an entire bouquet of these Sunflowers for your table by attaching each one to a wire stem.  I can’t wait to see what you create!
