Emboss It! – CTMH Technique Blog Hop

Welcome to the Emboss It! CTMH Technique Blog Hop where we will be featuring a variety of projects using embossing techniques.  MissCarriesCreations-EmbossItBlogHop.jpgIf you have come here from Terry Metzger’s blog, you are on the right path! When you are finished reading my post, you can click on the link at the end to move to the next blog. This blog hop is simple, fun, and full of ideas.  If you get lost along the way, you’ll find the complete list of participating consultants on Melissa’s Blog.

When it comes to paper crafting, there are two types of embossing techniques – Dry Embossing and Heat Embossing.  For my Birthday Wish card, I chose to feature Heat Embossing as I created a “faux” shaker card. I love how well the Mint and Almond play together with the vellum and white embossing powder. misscarriescreations-birthdaywishcard.jpgI began by stamping the background images onto Mint cardstock with VersaMark™ Ink using the Dandelion Wishes stamp set.  I found that the stamping was best done in stages. I stamped the top half of the cardstock with the large Dandelion image, added White Embossing Powder, then stamped the bottom half.

I then placed the three small “fluffs” onto a one-inch block, added a few random stampings, then sprinkled powder again. By stamping in stages, I was able to see where my images would best fit. After heating the embossing powder with a Heat Tool, I splattered Clear Shimmer onto the background.MissCarriesCreations-BirthdayWishDetail

The sentiment was also heat embossing on Vellum paper that had been inked on the back with Almond Ink. I chose to ink the vellum so that it would match the frame and dull the “whiteness” of the vellum. Once the Stitched frame was added, I adhered Sequins to the background to make it appear like a shaker card. I like how “faux” shaker cards have the look of a true shaker, but less bulk when mailing.

Make A Wish Card ~ Color My Heart Dare #334

I am so glad to see that we are focusing on some fresh spring colors at the Color My Heart Dare Blog, because I have spent the last week on a weather roller coaster. I was full of excitement packing away my sweaters at the beginning of the week with a 65º  glimpse of spring, only to drag them out again during a mid-week blizzard.  HELLO crazy!

MissCarriesCreations-ColorDare334

During the snowing and blowing, these bright shades of spring called out to me, and, as you can see, I used the full array of colors to create this charming Make a Wish card. (Why using only three when you have a whole palette to play with?)

MissCarriesCreations-MakeAWishCard

In all honesty, it was a very simple card to create using our sweet Dandelion Wishes stamp set and So Much Happy paper.  The stamp set lends to so many possibilities with the Dandelion fluffs, miniature flowers, and sentiments.  When I first spied this set in the catalog, I HAD TO have it – though considered a weed by most, dandelion fluffs are one of my favorite “flowers”.

After creating a stitched background of Almond cardstock and Lagoon paper, I heat embossed the sentiment using White Embossing powder. I also add a few of those cute little “fluffs” next “Wish” to make the sentiment stand out a bit.

Each of the Dandelion images was stamped onto a Stitched Square backed with Almond cardstock and placed onto the card using Thin Foam Tape. It is difficult to see, but I brushed a little Gold Shimmer onto each square before stamping the images.

Whether you are experiencing wonky temperatures this week or enjoying the warm sun, I hope that this Make a Wish card inspires you to create something new for the Color My Heart Color Dare challenge.

I can’t wait to see what you create!

Who knew that it would be so difficult to make a decision on what to create for this Blog Hop. There are SO MANY unbelievably wonderful items to choose from.😍 I decided that it would be best to focus on the featured paper pack of the month -the adorable Something Fierce collection – and tell you about some of the new products I used to create this precious Cute-a-Saurus Card.

NEW Larger Complements

If you have been a consumer (or collector) of Close to My Heart products for a while, you may remember that our complements were once 6″ x 12″ which allowed for larger stickers, die cuts, and borders.  Close to My Heart has brought back the large complements and I am relishing these seasonal designs – especially the sweet stickers I used on this card. How cute are those stars, hearts, and borders?!

NEW Cut-Apart Pages

This past year, Close to My Heart added Picture My Life pages to their paper packs, and, while these were super cute, many people didn’t use them, so the decision was made to add Cut-Apart-Pages instead.  I personally think that it is a wonderful idea and, as you can see on my card, gives you even more images to create with.

In each paper pack you will receive TWO of these new Cut-Apart-Pages with a patterned design on the back.  This gives you a choice to use the patterned paper, the images, or both when creating. For those of you who did use the Picture My Life cards, don’t panic. We now have a set of cards to match each of our paper collections that you can purchase separately for your pocket albums.

There are so many more products I used on this card – some  new and some carried over –  that you will find in the New Seasonal Expressions. If you have not had a chance to see the New Catalog, you are missing out.  The products in our Seasonal Expressions are mind-blowing and in-line with all of the current trends. (yep, dinosaurs are a trend right now)  If you would like to see the full catalog, you can visit the “Products” tab of your consultant’s website or view it online here.
