A Rainy Day Shaker Card & Cricut Tutorial

For the Green Color Dare Challenge

This week, I am bringing you a little inspiration for the Color Dare Challenge and gifting you with Cricut video tutorial to show you how I made today’s project. Before I show you my Rainy Day Shaker card, I want to remind you how to join this week’s color challenge.

Use ONLY the colors and neutral tones identified. When you are creating for more than one challenge please make sure your project meets our requirement.

Please link up your project to the Color Dare Blog before May 28th

Like the grass in my backyard, this challenge is all green. With the rain we have been having lately, my “desert” home looks more like something from the northwestern states.  Each day the clouds roll in, and I am happy to see the rain come down. That is what inspired me to create this Rainy Day Shaker card.

Although it is very hard to see in the photo, this card has quite a bit of green on and in it.  The design started out with a card image I found in the Artfully Sent Cricut collection.  In my tutorial, I show you how I used the Slice Tool to turn the front of this card into a shaker frame.

Once the images had been cut out, I stamped a sentiment onto the front of the card using Evergreen ink.  The sentiment is from another one of my favorite stamp sets in the May/June catalog – A Million Little Things.  I can’t wait to show you the other cards I make with this one.

I chose to use vellum instead to acetate to represent the clouds that lay low in my yard each morning after a rain storm. It’s hard to see in the photo, but there is some green plaid paper and Julep sequins hanging out behind that opaque vellum.

The plaid paper is from our new Aurora collection. This collection has an outdoorsy feel and is the perfect complement to this rainy day card.  I like how subtle and soft it all feels – just like the morning fog.

For those who would like to make a Rainy Day Shaker card of their own, I have created a simple Cricut Tutorial & Process Video.  This video will walk you through creating the card in Cricut Design Space and assembling it afterwards.

I hope that today’s project inspired you to take another look at the Artfully Sent Cricut collection and create a shaker card of your own.  We would love for you to share that creation with us at the Color My Heart Color Dare Challenge blog

Here is a List of the Items I Used Today

Grandma’s House Layout

We all have memories of our Grandma’s house.  For me, it was a place I could run around collecting pine cones, write acrostics, and explore outside. My Grandma’s House layout is perfect for recording all of those precious memories.  This kit features our New Gimme Some Sugar papers which are perfectly designed for pages just like this.

You can order a ready-to-assemble kit from my online store which includes a detailed full-color assembly guide, cardstock, designer Gimme Some Sugar papers, Peacock Stitched Ribbon, Cricut® die-cuts, and Gimme Some Sugar Cork Shapes. You will need just a few basic supplies to assemble the kit, then add your photos for a completed layout.

If you already own the supplies, or plan on purchasing them from your local consultant, you can purchase the Workshop Guide. The Workshop Guide will include cutting instructions, a Cricut® Design Space File, photos, and assembly instructions.  You will need to own the Cricut® cartridges used to cut out the images. The Grandma’s House Workshop Guide is available for purchase in my online store or FREE with a $30.00 purchase from my website.

Tuesday Tutorial

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner and many of us are scrambling to create some simple valentines for our friends & families.  Whenever I need to create multiples of something fast, I usually turn to my Cricut®.  This week, I have made a super-cute Valentine Treat Box with a tutorial for you to follow. As always, the list of supplies I used on this project can be found at the very bottom of this post.
We Click ValentineBox.jpg
Design Space Instructions:
1. Insert image Label – #M4184DE into your canvas.  (You can search the term “Label” and choose another shape you own that is similar.)
2. Resize the image to 3.5″w x 5″h. (You will have to UNLOCK to edit the Size.)
3. Position the image at X=0 and Y=0.
4. Insert a SCORE LINE shape then ROTATE 90′ and RESIZE to 3.5″.
5. Position the Score Line at X=0 and Y=2.
6. DUPLICATE the Score and Position the Score Line at X=0 and Y=3.
7. SELECT ALL and ATTACH the Score Lines to the image.

8. Insert a Circle shape then Resize to .25″.  Position the Circle at the center of the top of the image.  (I used Align Horizontally to help me with this. )
9. DUPLICATE the Circle and position the Circle at the center of the bottom of the image.
10. SELECT ALL and ATTACH the Circles to the image.

I chose to add “Hugs & Kisses” Text to the inside of my image, but you can stamp a sentiment if you would like.  The Camera, Heart, and “You & I Click” Sentiment were created from images on Close to My Heart cartridges.  I added three Hugs® candies to the inside before tying the ribbon. (Treasures® chocolate candies also fit.)

I hope you take the time to create some Valentine Treats of your own.  If you don’t have the time to re-create this or just don’t want to fuss with Design Space, I do have this Cricut® file for sale in my online Holiday Store.  You will need to own the cartridges used in order to cut out the images.  I can’t wait to see what you create!
