Crafting Live on Craft Roulette

Here is something I never pictured my crafty self doing – a LIVE game show called Craft Roulette.  Yes, you read that correctly.  A game show for paper crafters.  This weekly paper-craft challenge takes place on Mary GunnFunn’s Facebook page and you get to participate as Mary and her guest crafters create a randomly selected craft …. and guess who was chosen as one of her guest crafters??

Let me just say, this was one of those experiences that a crafter like me doesn’t really have on her bucket list, but it should have been on there because Mary and her son were wonderful hosts.  If you have never heard of Craft Roulette, the game starts with the spinning of a wheel where four random crafting parameters are chosen.

PROJECT

COLORS

ELEMENT

RANDOM

In Mary’s video she states that there are 331,776 project possibilities and no one knows what they are going to be ahead of time.  That’s right! I had to wing it and grab whatever I could find in my crafting space after the wheel was spun and make something based on the four guidelines chosen. Here is what I came up with.

The wheel of randomness chose Fancy Fold, Red, Yellow & Orange for colors, a Butterfly element and  Shimmer.  I had no knowledge of any of this ahead of time. The game show is LIVE on Facebook and both Mary and I found out about the requirements as the wheel was spinning.

To be honest, I was rather frightened at first.  Not only was I going to be live on a public Facebook page (a first for me), but I was going to have to make something on-the-spot in front of people I didn’t really know and hope for the best.  Then that wheel spun and I was given colors I rarely use and told to make it a fancy fold. Thank goodness for the shimmer – if all else failed, I would just brush it with sparkles and call it good.

So as you can see, not only did all the viewers get to seen my crazy “what the heck am I going to make” face, but they also got to watch Mary and I create a fancy fold project using all the colors required with a butterfly and some shimmer.

I kept my fold very simple and used some paper scraps I had on hand with a single stamped butterfly image and Bloom with Grace stickers.  At first, the color combination threw me, but then I realized that I didn’t have to use primary colors, I could use fall shades – Paprika, Scarlet, and Sundance.

For the shimmer, I used a strip of red glitter paper. Again, I struggled with this because I don’t usually use glitter paper on my projects, but it was a scrap that was sitting on my desk from my Christmas Card video, and I decided to go ahead and use it.

For those of you who missed the show, you can go view it in Mary’s FUNN Facebook group or check it our on her website, or view it here on YoutUbe.  If I were you, I would join Mary’s Facebook group so that you can play along next time.

Speaking of playing along – YOU CAN PLAY, TOO!!  Each week, you can submit the projects you have made based on these four requirements.  You can also join to fun every Friday, and watch Mary and her friends create.

Again, I want to thank Mary and her son for being such lovely hosts and allowing me to come play on Craft Roulette.  I hope to join you again and look forward to seeing one of you at next week’s game show.

Create a Floating Butterfly Layout

In July,  I was blessed with a sneak peek of the new Creativity in Motion collection of animated stamps and was asked to create a few projects showing you how to use them.  Today, I am sharing a scrapbook page I made with floating butterflies that were stamped using those animated images.  I have also created a simple process video for you to enjoy so that you can learn some tips and tricks for creating your own Floating Butterfly layout.

When I first saw the Creativity in Motion collection, I honestly wasn’t sure if I would be able to use it.  I have a condition that does not allow me to see certain dimensional art as intended which is probably why Van Gogh and Signac are two of my favorite artists.

These lenticular stamps are designed to work with the striped acetate sheets to create a image that appears as if it is moving.  I recently created a slimline butterfly card showing how these images appear animated. If you missed it, you can view it here

llen·tic·u·lar/lenˈtikyələr/ (adjective) images with an illusion of depth, or that appear to have the ability to change or move as the image is viewed from different angles

As I opened up my box of goodies, I fell in love with these butterfly and dragonfly images. The distressed images with worn lines made them appear like little works of art. I just had to find a way to use them.

I decided to create a layout that was bright and full of fun♥, just like the photo, and went to town creating this playful page. In the video below, I show you how I created the texture paste background and heat embossed butterflies, and I give you a few tips and tricks for layering elements and aligning your foam letter stickers.

Not only did I use the butterflies from the Creativity in Motion bundle, I also used those adorable bright paper patterns and the Border Tab thin cut dies. The bright paper stack is full of all sorts of patterns you can use on your cards, scrapbook pages, and Cricut projects.

I chose to layer multiple pieces behind my photo to match the fanciful polka-dots and flowers on the girls’ clothes. Each piece was edged with black using our blending tools. This is the first time I have edged a paper with black ink and I am liking how it looks. I may have to try it again soon.

The journaling for this page is hidden behind the photo on a little card that I created using the Border Tab thin cut dies and stamp set.   I also used this die on quite a few pages in my Disney album, but at the time the product was still “top secret”, so I couldn’t tell any of you what I was using.  You can’t imagine how hard that was.  I had quite a few questions asking me how I made those mini-album pull-outs and now you know.

To complete the page, I needed a title that wasn’t too bold or busy, yet matched these three cousin’s personalities, so I chose to use our Foam Alphabet along with my label maker and a sentiment sticker to create a phase that describes these three girls perfectly.

I hope that today’s project inspired you to try something new and look at the Butterfly Kisses stamp set in a whole new way.  The Creativity in Motion Bundle is available at a discount during the month of September. Make sure to stop by my website and take a look at all the components in this kit so that you can join me for the Free Virtual event.

Creating with Cricut & Creativity in Motion

As many of you know, I was blessed with a box of sneak peek products from Close to My Heart and, until now, I could not tell you what those were.  You can’t image how hard it is to have some wonderful crafty goodness sitting in your craft space that you are not allowed to share with anyone. When the boxes arrived, I was tasked to create some projects to share and inspire others and TODAY, I get to finally share my tutorials with you.

Slimline cards seem to be all the rage right now, so I decided to create my very first one using my Cricut and the NEW Creativity in Motion animation products.  Originally, our Creativity in Motion special was not supposed to be released until September 1st, but Close to My Heart wanted you to be able to get a hold of these products earlier so that you can join us for the free online class in on National Stamping Day.

In the Creativity in Motion bundle you will receive the supplies and instructions you need to make those adorable cards shown on my website.  I chose to use all the items in my bundle to create something a little different.  This Animated Butterfly slimline card was designed using the papers and stamps in the bundle along with a few images I cut using my Cricut Maker

After cutting out the lattice and flowers, I designed a way for the animated butterfly to peer through a porthole. The butterfly image is one of the many animated stamps you can purchase in this collection.  Right now, you can only purchase the stamp set in the bundle, but, on September 1st, you will be able to purchase it separately; however, getting the bundle at a discount is always a great bonus.

For those of you who are wondering what an animated card is, it is an optical illusion card.  The stamped images are designed to work with the striped acetate sheets creating the illusion of movement when you shift the image.

As you can see, when the tab is pulled, the butterflies wings move.  How awesome it that?! It looks like that butterfly is fluttering through a garden of flowers.

In my video tutorial below, I walk you through the Design Space process to create this card front and I show you some tips and tricks for using these new Creativity in Motion stamps and animation sheets.

Please take a few minutes to subscribe to my channel so that you are notified when I add my next video tutorial.

In the coming weeks, I will be showcasing more of my Creativity in Motion projects. Make sure to subscribe to my blog, newsletter, or YouTube channel so that you do not miss out on these upcoming projects.

I was honored to be asked my Close to My Heart to create some of these projects for you.  I hope that you were inspired by today’s Animated Butterfly Slimline card and that you plan to create one of your own using the Creativity in Motion products.
