When I received the July kit from Hip Kit Club, I was immediately drawn to the mix of patterns and prints in this summer collection. Often, pattern papers are used as a background element or to frame photos, but there are so many other uses for your fun prints.

To add more character to my designs, I often cut flowers out of patterned paper. Layering pattern paper petals and leaves creates a distinctive effect on a page.

On this particular layout, I mixed a variety of patterns to go with those striking florals. By choosing patterns that complement each other in both scale and style, I was able to create a visually appealing design.

Using patterned die cuts adds a unique element to your layout. The patterns chosen for those elements can be used to draw attention to specific areas of the page.

Not only can you cut out your shapes and florals from patterns, but you can also create custom titles with those prints. Instead of using plain paper or stickers for your title, use patterned paper that matches the theme or colors of your layout.

I selected a striped pattern for my title and carefully placed the alphabet die over the stripes to create a unique pattern across my phrase. A mix of patterns and colors would have also created a wonderful design.

Patterns that may feel too busy or overwhelming to use on a page can actually create stunning borders. I choose prints that complement the theme or colors of my photos to unify the layout.
