When I receive a fresh pack of pattern paper, I often find myself perplexed by a few sheets. In the past, I would store them away and forget about them, but now I challenge myself to use them. Today, I am going to share a few tips that will help you use those tricky pattern papers in your scrapbook.

Hip Kit Club always has amazing designs in their pattern packs that coordinate beautifully with the ephemera, cardstock, and dies. Occasionally, I encounter one or two patterns that I am not sure how to use, but I have discovered that if I break them down into smaller pieces, they become manageable and easy to work with.

The June collection includes a bright, four-quadrant triangle pattern with plenty of open space. I wasn’t sure how to use it in its original form, so I decided to modify it. By trimming it down to a circular shape and breaking apart the sections, I was able to make better use of the design.
Breaking up the pattern into smaller sections created ample room for white space. It also gave me more options for adding texture with distressing or stitching.

If you’re someone who prefers muted hues, bright colors might not be your cup of tea. Personally, I’ve always had a bit of a struggle with the color yellow. However, I’ve found that incorporating it in small doses has helped me to appreciate it more.
One approach to balance out a busy pattern paper is to use a solid color cardstock as a background or use the paper as a border or frame. This allows the pattern to stand out without overpowering the page.

Floral patterns can also be difficult to use in their entirety. I like to cut out specific elements in the pattern paper and use them as embellishments on my page. This adds interest and texture to the design without using the full pattern.
Fussy cutting around the elements in the pattern paper gives you more control over the placement of the pattern and allows you to create a custom design that suits your project.

If a pattern paper feels too bold for your design, try pairing it with a simpler one. This always creates a dynamic and interesting layout.
