To commemorate Father’s Day, I designed a sweet father-daughter baby layout that combines purple, blue, and soft mango hues. Understanding color ratios was instrumental in creating this visually balanced layout. In today’s video, I will share some insight into how I achieved it.

When it comes to creating visually appealing scrapbook pages, color balance is crucial. Using gallon quirt pint ratios can help you achieve balance by providing a guide for the amount of each color you should use. If this color concept is new to you, here are a few tips to keep in mind.

When I began recording this memory of a father and daughter, I felt like it was important to select colors and patterns that were both masculine and soft. I began with an ice-blue background, a simple circle, and a few floral cut files. While blue was a lovely addition, I needed to decide on a focal point hue that would give this page a feminine feel and add to the baby theme.
This focal point color is what designers like to call the “gallon color” and it should be the predominant color on the page. This hue sets the mood for the entire design. Purple is one of those colors that can be bold and dramatic or quiet and subtle, depending on the tone or shade.

The blue background, clouds, paint, and circle all complement the gallon hue. This secondary color in your palette is referred to as the pint. Your pint color should be a little less intense, but still vibrant enough to add interest to your layout.
The least used color is referred to as the quart color which is a neutral color that ties everything together. On this page, this subtle understated color is a soft mango which is similar in color to the wood flowers I added.

Wood can be considered part of your color palette depending on its staining and the amount used. These lovely wood florals from Hip Kit add a natural element to the page with a bit of a masculine feel.
In today’s video, I share additional insights on how to achieve balance on your scrapbook layouts by utilizing the color ratio system.
The color ratio system is just one tool to help you achieve balance in your scrapbook layouts. Don’t be afraid to experiment with color and create a project that is uniquely yours.
