Create Magic with a Cut File

Did you know that many of your favorite paper companies have coordinating cut files that you can use on your projects? Last week, I tried something new and downloaded two HipKit file SVGs to create a background for my layout. I was thrilled with how it turned out! If you’re interested, I’d love to explain how I used the cut files and layered florals to achieve this look.

This layout was created with components from the April Hip Kit and two of the butterfly cut files found on the website. While some files are exclusive to club subscribers, non-subscribers can access a considerable number of them after registering on the site.

This page records a memory of the flower girl getting ready at our son’s wedding. She wore a pair of delightful fairy wings during the ceremony, which is why the two butterfly files were the perfect choice for this page.

On the background, I layered a detailed butterfly wreath cut from white cardstock over a vellum layer. To create the solid layer, I used the Cricut contour tool in Design Space.

By using the contour tool, I was able to remove unwanted cuts or contours from the image. I also made some adjustments to the larger butterfly image to eliminate some of the details, allowing the type set paper to be more prominent.

If you are unfamiliar with the contour tool, I have a Five Minute Cricut class that explains how to modify cut files in Design Space. You can view it here.

After adding multiple layers of butterflies, florals, and die cuts, I finished off this page with a magical title. I love how all the layers on this page came together and I would love to share the process with you.

In my video, I explain more about modifying the HipKit cut files and share some easy tips and tricks for adding layers of flowers to your pages.

I hope that you have fun discovering new cut files and enjoy trying these new techniques and ideas. The beauty of scrapbooking is that there are endless possibilities for creativity.
