Over the past year, I’ve grown more at ease with using mixed media in my work. While there are still some uncertainties, each new medium I try beyond my comfort zone is a learning experience. Today, I’m excited to share a fun technique that involves layering stencils with ink and chalk mousse. I hope this project will inspire you to explore new creative possibilities in your own work.
This sweet baby page was created using a mix of floral die cuts, stenciled images, stamps, and perspextives. It has such a soft color palette and is perfect for spring.
Creating the soft pink background was a simple technique that you could try. Start by using a circular stencil and shading the image with a subtle pink hue. Without moving the stencil, place a smaller heart stencil on top and apply a darker ink. Once both stencils are removed, you will have a beautiful layered circular design.
If you would like to add texture to the page, grab a third stencil and use chalk mousse paste to create a unique layered design. Randomly place the images over the circles to bring your page to life.
As someone who appreciates adding depth to my pages, I decided to incorporate stitching into my layered florals. For my embroidered pieces, I opted for a tone-on-tone design.
The thread added an interesting texture to the page and provided a striking contrast to the paste and acrylic perspextive pieces that were incorporated into the layout.
If you want your title to stand out, try incorporating a stamped image into the background. I used a darker shade of blue and positioned the stamped text behind the tile and photo, creating an engaging visual triangle.
