I enjoy sharing new ways that you can use the items in your craft collection. Today’s video focuses on distress oxide reinkers and how you can utilize them to paint floral designs on cards. I hope this project inspires you to try something new.
These lovely spring cards were created using the pattern from the April Not2Shabby paper pack. I love how bright these designs are and how the collection also includes solid peices of 6×6 paper.
On the solid pattern paper, I heat embossed floral designs and used distress oxide reinkers to paint in the images. The first card has a subtle tone-on-tone whilte the second card it more vibrant with a softer shade of lilac.
The white embossing powder made those images stand out and the lighter color of ink creates a bolder floral image. Both of these are simple to create and add stunning detail to your cards.
After heat embossing the image, I poured the re-inker into a small paint palette and used a waterbrush to add color to the images. If you struggle with painting, you don’t need to worry. The embossing powder acts as a barrier keeping the paint inside the lines.
Embossing powder also resists distress oxide ink. There were a few places where my painting skills got a little messy, but the powder prevented the ink from covering the lines.
If you don’t own any re-inkers, you can also use your ink pads to add color. On this card, I smooshed the ink pad onto my glassboard and thinned it with water to paint the images.

These card designs are very simple, but the addition of embossed images and painted florals gives these a lovely spring feel. I hope this project inspired you.
