Sometimes, you want to create a themed layout, but don’t have items in your craft stash for the project. This is when you need to get a little creative and use what you have on hand. Today, I am sharing how I picked out items from a kit to create a page that fit the theme of the photos.
To create this layout, I used components from the NJFB Burnished limitless kit and the essentials kit. Both of these are filled with vintage mechanical pieces. Before adhering items in place, I selected patterns, ephemera, and other elements that would complement my photos.
After selecting some patterns to place behind my photo collage, I chose a generic title that I could add to with words or icons. Knowing that this would be placed in the lower left corner meant that I needed to find elements to counterbalance it on the right.
From the kit, I selected a tire tread stencil and chipboard to use as structural pieces around the photo. To create the tire pattern, I used a mix of grit and grey texture paste to produce the feel of dirt on the track.
I continued the grey color onto the chipboard with layers of paint and distress oxide ink. These chipboard pieces were used to frame the photo and created a great statement piece on the page.
Most of the die cuts are not truly motocross themed, but they have a purpose. I chose green tickets to bring focus to the green bike, number plates that match the number, and a few tools.
I also selected this vintage ship piece for the terms that were printed on it. The words full, slow, stand by, and stop were a great set of phrases to place near the starting line photos.

Even though I didn’t have motocross-themed pieces, I was able to use mechanical parts, chipboard, paint, and bits of ephemera to create an awesome page and record some great memories of my brother.
