Heat Embossed Valentine Cards

I am a huge fan of the classic black, white, and red color palette and today’s valentine cards certainly give off a classic vibe. In today’s video tutorial, I am going to share some simple heat embossing tips and show you how these cards came together. These two cards were created for the Not2Shabby Stamp of the Month hop & giveaway. At the bottom of this post, are the details to enter the monthly giveaway.

Even though I created these for the holiday, the designs can be used for just about any occasion. Both have a simple floral heart arrangement but were created a little differently to show you the versatility of this layout. I heat embossed the florals, sentiments, and butterflies to give these some texture and dimension.

In the center of this card, I heat embossed the sentiment in white and backed the heart with heat embossed vellum. This paper can be a bit tricky to heat emboss. I prefer a vellum that is 40lb or more, and I heat from farther away than usual. Embossing powder melts quickly on vellum, so you need to keep a close eye on the process.

Heat embossing does require a few specialty tools like an antistatic applicator, watermark ink, embossing powder and a heat tool. I like to use ultrafine embossing powder for my projects. The finer powder tends to show the details of stamped images and creates crisper sentiments.

If you are new to heat embossing, start with a no-frills stamp and black embossing powder. Experiment with a few pieces of scrap cardstock at first so that you can learn how quickly your heat tool melts the powder and how your powder reacts to the heat.

In my video tutorial, I share quite a few tips to help you with your heat embossing adventure. If you are an experienced crafter, you might learn something new, too.

I hope that all of the projects created by the N2S design team inspire you today.  To sign up for the giveaway, you will need to click that little youtube icon and head on over to my channel. Information about how to take part in the giveaway and the sign up link can be found in the description.
