Have Fun with Happy New Year Cards

If you have purchased any stencil butter, texture pastes, or glitter gels, today is the day to pull them out and give them a try. The two cards I am creating use simple mixed media techniques that can be replicated on your scrapbook pages. These designs would be perfect for your new year, theme park, or holiday photos.

SUPPLIES | Glassboard (Save 20% with Carrie20), Sewing Machine, Hello 2023 Perspextives, Firework Stencil, Expressions Stamp Set, Florals 6 Die Set, Kraft Paper, Mixed Media Paper, Copper Stencil Butter, Turquoise Stencil Butter, Nuvo Glacier Paste, Shimmerz Paint, White Paint Pen, Blue Pearls, Gold Pearls, Stamping Platform, Clear Stamping Mat, Silicone Mat, Magnetic Board, Silicone Brush, Pixie Spray, Glossy Highlights, Die Release Tool, Foam Dots, Foam Backing Sheet, Glue Dots, Bearly Art Glue, Tape Runner

On each of these cards, I used a fireworks stencil to create the background with stencil butter and glitter paste. I chose to create one with a white background and one in black so that you could see how different the mediums look on these two cards.

The white background is soft and subtle and creates a lovely backdrop. I created the bursts with copper stencil butter and glacier paste then added some shimmer splatter over the top. As I was creating each layer, I made sure that the mediums were set before I added another.

This allowed me to layer some of the images on top of each other giving the look of fireworks bursting in the sky. I chose to accent this card with a blue ribbon, pearls, and a blue background.

The blue contrasts beautifully with the copper stencil butter and golden acrylic 2023 perspextive. This is a very simple design, and it’s one that allows you to experiment with your mixed media pastes.

On the darker background, the colors just pop off the card. I used the same copper stencil butter and glacier paste and added an additional turquoise color to the design.

With each layer of paste, I made sure that the medium was completely set and dry before I moved on to the next. When I was finished stenciling, I added some spatters of white paint to make it appear like the night sky.

I chose to add some lace and a three-dimensional flower to this card. Over the lace, I added some copper grid washi tape. This was a bit translucent, so I attached it to some white cardstock before stitching the two together.

Just like on my scrapbook layouts, I repeat the colors and shapes on my card designs. I added some gold mini-pearls to the center of the flower and flat-backed pearls around the perspextive to bring some more of that golden color to the design.

In my video, I share some simple mixed media tips and show you how this came together.

The techniques I shared with you today are ones you can use on your scrapbook pages.  The layers created behind the two perspectives would make a lovely background.
