Beach Day with NJFB Kits

This month, I have been working my way through kits I’ve stashed away and creating some fun projects to share with you.  This project includes some beautiful beach photos on a vertical layout which is a simple one to make.

SUPPLIES | Beach House Kit, Brilliance Kit Papers, Simple Vintage Coastal Bits, Wood Grain Alpha Thickers, Splatter Stamps, Frayed Burlap Ink, Centering Ruler, Die Lifter Tool, Foam Dots, Bearly Art Glue, Tape Runner, Glassboard (Save 20% with Carrie20), Photo Printer, Sewing Machine

This vertical design was created using the Beach House kit from {Not} Just for Boys Kit club. I paired elements in the kit with leftover pattern papers and vintage coastal die cuts in my collection.

The photos I used are twenty-year-old digitals that could not be edited, so I creatively cropped them into thin horizontal rectangles that focus on the ocean and the photos. Next to each one, I added clusters of embellishments and parts of the title.

To lead your eye down the page, I stamped some broken circles and splatters with frayed burlap ink. These images helped to fill in some of the white space and frame the elements.

The title was created using some wood grain thickers. I chose five words and added them next to each photo. I find that odd numbers work best with longer titles like this one.

Next to each word, I layered elements from the cut-apart page and die-cut pack. I tried to balance the colors and shapes in each cluster with pieces that helped to tell the story.

In each cluster, I added a few natural colored elements, bits of blue, and salmon hues. I also added wood grain hearts, yellow pearls, and some twine to create texture.

Behind each photo, I added blue-green patterns. These are papers that I had left over from previous kits and they matched the photos perfectly.

To add more texture, I used a sewing machine to create some zig-zag stitching down the side of the page, and random stitching around the white cardstock and photos to create a frame. I like how little details like this add so much to a page.

If you would like to see how this page came together and learn a new way to add journaling directly to your page, I have a process video for you.

For those of you who vacation or spend time at the seaside this time of year, the Beach House kit is a great one to add to your collection.  On this page, I used quite a few elements from the kit and added a few bits of pieces I had in my collection to create an awesome page of our kid visiting the beach for the very first time.

If you have any questions about this page or the supplies I listed above, feel free to leave me a comment.
