Have you ever tried to create a banner page? I attempted to stretch my creativity with a banner design for a back-to-school scrapbook layout. It required me to learn a new way to balance a design and create flow across a page. Today, I am going to share this new layout design with you and a few things that I learned.
I selected a background pattern from Cocoa Vanilla with a simple design and multiple colors. Both children in the photos are going into teaching, and the plus signs felt like they would fit the theme.
As I was selecting colors for the banners, I had to determine which colors from the background to use. I knew that the title would be blue, so I backed the photos in the same color. I added a green, peach, and yellow banner to the page and popped them up with adhesive sheets.
To avoid overwhelming the eye, I choose ephemera in like colors on each of the banners and added a sunflower to each one of them. The sunflowers were layered with floral die cuts to keep them from looking like they were just floating alone on the banners.
I also added some die cuts with phrases onto the banners. To make them look like they were part of the hanging elements, I punch holes at the top and tied them to the banners with twine.
With the banner going in a horizontal direction, I felt like I needed something to balance it out vertically. Using the title, some bee perspextives, and ephemera I created a vertical strip of elements down the center.
The title was created with a cut file and cut out from paper and cardstock with my Cricut. I added a strip of numbers off to right and a book below to add to the teaching theme. To give this area a little more weight, I added some leaves, hearts, stickers, and an adorable little acrylic bee.

I learned quite a bit on my first attempt at a banner page including how to find balance, how to create the look of hanging elements, and how to add vertical pieces. This was a fun page to make and it required me to stretch myself a little.
