‘Tis the Season for Photo Filters

Our children are of the age where they enjoy using app filters on their photos. This can make it difficult to record true photos of their faces especially when most of them look photoshopped or have animal ears. When you are recording memories, you are sharing everyday moments and photo filters are a part of our life. Today, I am sharing a Christmas scrapbook page I created to record two sweet little deer faces taken during a holiday dinner.

SUPPLIES | ‘Tis the Season Page Kit, ‘Tis the Season Essentials Kit, Leafy Deer Cardstock Cut, Woodgrain Thickers, Good Times Puffy Letters, Distress Oxide Sprays, Shimmerz Paint Waterbrush, Post-It Tape, T-Ruler, Die Lifter Tool, Foam Dots, Bearly Art Glue, Glassboard (Save 20% with Carrie20), Photo Printer, Sewing Machine

This layout was created using components from the new ‘Tis the Season kit along with some other items in the {Not} Just for Boys Kit Club shop. I selected blue elements from the kit to match the photo and added a bit of red to give it a Christmas feel.

With the focus being on the photo of these two using a reindeer filter, I chose to use a cardstock cut in the shape of the deer to frame the photo. I shaded it with a mix of distress oxide sprays to bring in a neutral hue and added some metallic Shimmerz splatter.

Behind my photo, I added some pattern papers, ephemera frames, and a blue lace ribbon that matched to torn paper strips at the top of the page. This ribbon is included in the ‘Tis the Season essentials kit along with some additional die cuts and mixed media elements.

From the ephemera pack, I chose primarily blue and red elements. I added two wreath images to match the curve of the torn papers, added some tickets in the corner, and a tab and sentiment.

To create my visual triangle, I added an additional sentiment in the corner of the photo with a set of candy canes shaped like a heart then completed the triangle with a red house near the deer.

To match the metallic splatter on the deer, I added a few little gold Thickers among the elements. I don’t use gold on my pages very often, but I felt like this page needed a little bit of shimmer to add to the holiday feel.

Creating so much visual weight near the top of the page gave me the ability to create a larger title at the base. I used neutral-toned letters to create a play on words with some stickers that I have left over from previous kits.

To frame this title, I added some bright red zig-zag stitching and a checker arrow. Around the elements, I adhered deep blue pearls from the kit and added my journalling below.
