Mixed Media & Memories of the Archery Range

Before I share today’s project with you, I want you to know that I honestly struggled to make this layout. There are times when I have photos, a kit, and no direction to go. Never did I ever expect the page to turn out like this.

SUPPLIES | Brilliance Limitless Kit, Autumn Auburn Days Kit, Mixed Media Paper, Debut Tags Cut File, Vintage Lakeside Sticker Collection, Grave Texture Paste, Seashore Enamel Dots, Vintage Photo Distress Oxide Ink, Silicone Mat, Pink Waterbrush, Waterbrush, T-Ruler, Glassboard (Save 20% with Carrie20), Photo Printer, Sewing Machine, Cricut Machine, Foam Dots, Bearly Art Glue

When I received the Brilliance Kit, I was inspired by the lakeside paper to create a page using photos of our son on the archery range. This pattern has a masculine feel that can be used for many outdoor photos.

After selecting the background pattern, I envisioned a vertical layout with letter stickers along the sides, but I couldn’t find balance in that design. Instead, I opted for some cut files and die cuts.

The tags from the Debut collection allowed me to add some texture and phrases while the die cuts from the ephemera pack brought in some color.

The collection also included a few reel shapes. These reminded me of the cam on a bow and added some additional color to the layout. The circular shape also helped to break up the lines on the page.

When it came time to create the title, I struggled once again. I had plans to use a few phrases in the ephemera pack, but felt like the size and color weren’t a good fit.

I settled on an envelope die cut that I cut down into a triangle and added some letter stickers. Behind the title, I tucked some tags attached to a journal card in a hidden pocket.

In my video, I share the process for this page along with the struggles I faced while creating it.

Creative block comes frequently, but I have learned that you just have to push forward and let the elements work together on a page. It might not turn out how you envisioned it, but it always works out in the end.

I hope that this gave you a few ideas for using this new September kit from Not Just for Boys Kit Club and inspired you to try something new.  If you have any questions about the project or the supplies listed below, feel free to post that in the comments.
